titebond is water soluable
and almost nothing sticks to water
oh hell yea it handles water probably the best out of all the wood glues i’ve tried. I use it when repairing boats
Yeah but if you do two and glue them while clamped, they will hold shape afterwards…? That’s the point isn’t it!?
That was at the unclamping, it came back to a much flatter shape
And there’s anorher bend made perpendicular to this one which disappeared due to the fiber being not in the right direction
Yeah but if it’s not being laminated to another sheet it’s not gonna hold the shape. It needs layering and gluing.
Do another test? With two or three veneers and glue.
That’s the reason why I want to press glue the plys when wet
You need additional plies like Ross said…and you need to design in a transition between compound curves… wood will only bend so much… looking at your test piece It should form without wetting it out if you have transitions
lay up three pieces like your test, titebond them and press them… if the roarrokit is not enuff vacc… you may have to clamp the bag as well…

in the name of science… but me personally I want to avoid steaming the wood, wetting it, and all that rig-a-ma-roll… carefully blending curves into transitions back to curves is what you want… take a good long look at other decks you have… they do not go from longitudinal curves to cross deck curves immediately…
YES we’re all shooting at “air-quotes” and suppositions until we see what you’re trying to accomplish

EDIT : It’s the enclosure I’m doing, the deck is already pressed
I wish you well… but a wood veneer with that shape is going to be really difficult to make
you may find glass or CF a much better choice for that enclosure shape… if you want it to “look” wood… skin it in wood fabric…
but for science… lay it up wet and press it… you already have some test pieces to put back in the press… but multi-layers will hold shape better than a single unbonded shape

I wouldn’t wet or steam it either I would be afraid that would make the laminate prone to twists if the veneer moves while it dries.
I think whatever the glue or epoxy you want to use, that kind of shape or bend would need a hydraulic press.
Have you thought about using something other than wood? Like a honeycomb and resin infusion?

I think we all thought you were pressing a deck… an enclosure’s strength isn’t quite the safety issue that a deck is…
you should see what type of an enclosure I’m honing in on… and no… it won’t be make of wood… It’s way too complex…
