Building a new board, parts are arriving soon and I only have a 7.5ah battery that on my hub board got me 15 miles but on a belt driven it’s gonna do like 10, so I’m curious what’s the cheapest way to get a battery that’s gonna get me great range. I’m broke I didn’t get a stimulus check ok. I am down to learn how to make them I have some electrical and soldering experience but I don’t have a spot welder
More information about your board and enclosure would help
Doesn’t the lack of stimulus check mean you make more than the average? :
The cheapest way is probably going with something from metroboard batteries:
$150 for 20 mile battery. Comes prewired and with BMS too. Hard to beat for that price
The cheapest way to get a 20 mile range battery is to make a DIY trailer full of old lead-acid car batteries and make it all out of stuff you piece together.
It’s going to be complete crap though. But it will be the cheapest way.
Nese modules are a no spot welder required solution but takes up a bit of space and requires 3d printing.
You could get someone here to spot weld the p groups and then you solder them together and connect a bms later.
Only do the latter option if you’ve done some solid research on battery assembly and feel confident enough to not short your battery and/or start a fire.
@b264 isn’t wrong. My first board was full of heavy SLA batteries and I just kept adding more for the range I wanted. Eventually, I had a 30 lb battery and needed a change. Lithium ion ftw.
HobbyKing have some lipos on sale 6s 5000mah , four of these will run you $120 and make a 12S 10000Mah pack. Or buy 21700 Littokala 4000mah 10S4P 16000Mah pack will be a $100 +$16 for a BMS $24 for xt90, fuse, 8awg Silicon cable.
buy an identical battery and swap it out when dead
Ahaha I was a dependent last year and am 18 so didn’t get a check nor the $500. But these might be what I was looking for! Will check them out when I get out of the bathroom
don’t think I wanna toe a bunch of lead acid batteries behind me but I guess that’s a solution huh
Do you have… a butt plugg on your esk8? Does that help with drag or something? Also I would never steal a lime battery
how easy are they to steal
That’s what I was doing on my old board. Worked great till I sent it into the ocean. Trying to not do hot swaps on this build it was kinda a hassle.
I cannot justify using lead acid batteries on a esk8. maybe if I hadnt already experienced a 25 mile range with my old hot swap board I would think about it, gotta keep my board light, I am going to look into what @annihil8ted said $150 for a 20 mile battery, curious if there is something up with them since they seem pretty cheap, my current battery was $107 and used to get me like 15 miles, it was on sale its $200+ now.
it’s a ten dollar investment in security torx bits
source: i used to charge lime/bird’s to feed my kids
wouldnt they like check who last had the scooter out and just charge your card for the battery
it doesn’t make sense for you to rent the scooter and then take it apart at home. either just take it apart where you find it, or bring it home in your vehicle and then take it apart. ideally, you would buy it from your city impound for pennies on the dollars so you have all the rights to the scooter. however, i see them lying about all the time in the bushes, treated like trash by their corporate owner, riders, and the community alike. anyways, the first step to “decapitating the bird” is disconnecting the controller board (with integrated gps) from the rest of the vehicle, which is what you’ll need the security torx bit for. the more i think about it, i think the screws at the bottom of the chassis just needs a standard hex drivers. that will let you take the pack out and leave the carcass behind, tracker and all. while you probably want to use your own bms, there is open source firmware available for the xiaomi bms used in most of these scooters.
Noted. Ahahah think they actually rent these things out over by where I lost my old board ironically.
Very very easy. Just give a tweaker $20 and come back in an hour
It’s a momentum board. The owner is a child molester. It’s fitting .
It’s a 10s8p lime battery. Smaller lime/ birds are 10s4p
Back seat of the car!
