Got my 5 FOCer! Just soldered up one and was flashing it.

Does the BLDC_4_ChibiOS.hex contain the bootloader as well or did I need to flash that separately? I was looking for the bootloader via here: https://github.com/shamansystems/Cheap-FOCer-2/tree/master/guides/assembly#celebrate-and-flash-the-vesc-bootloader then https://electric-skateboard.builders/t/vesc-boot-loader-installation-tutorial/32103?source_topic_id=52813 But the link appears broken for me?

Maybe I need a login to http://vedder.se? Or did someone have a link to the bootloader?

Ah I don’t think I put the bootloader in the repo. I need to do this when I have a chance.

In the mean time, snag it from the official vesc boot loader repo.

Yeah I’m keen if no one wants them

I’m also interested in purchasing an assembled extra from any of you early builders.

Welcome, Doctor.

There are currently four folks that have expressed interest in buying my extras. I haven’t yet placed my order. So it’s not going to be a super fast turnaround. But I’ve taken the names of the folks that have expressed interest.

I fully intend to sell ready to go units.

But only in Canada.

I already do this with another open source product (Stratux) that would otherwise be unavailable or overpriced in Canada.

Is it a hassle to get them to the USA?

Cross border shipping is not that bad if you don’t mind having no tracking info. But that is risky for the seller.

I just prefer to serve the Canadian market. I suspect that there will be many people who are interested in serving the US market.

With Stratux all the parts were sold via amazon and there were a few vendors doing drop shipping to Canada for 3-5x the normal price. So I started importing the parts and selling them on amazon.ca to undercut the drop shippers.

Chuck the other blokes above me, I can’t really afford it anyway

I assume this is for hobbyist level stuff? Super cool you do that

Hi Shaman, I quickly read the popular posts in this thread and this looks quite neat

@GeorgS Im assuming you made a batch of these right?

I don’t think it does. I looked through it a few times.

Especially the cost of fully assembly 10pc in the real world. The repo mentions 5 boards for roughly $120 but is that just the boards with electronic components only? Or with all the additional hardware minus shipping? Its not clear.

Id really like to know how much it really cost for these (10pc) full fat versions with all the connectors, heatsink, hardware, imu etc, including shipping for all the small parts it starts to add up.

You also designed the case? That’s cool man, seems like the only cheap-focer related design on thingievers at the moment. How long does it take to print?

One of the main Stratux dealers is an airline pilot. He got started making and selling them to his coworkers.

Here is one being used on a Rockwell B-1b. https://i.redd.it/1vfrxinbwknz.jpg

It was developed by hobbyists but is basically a consumer product now. I started out making 3d printable cases for it and ended up designing parts for injection molding.
