Thoughts on running a barrel 5.5x2.5 on 8 amps?

Some jacks & plugs are much better than others

If it gets super hot I would lower the current

The power port on a BMS. Where can I find more information on this? Are you speaking about hooking a buck converter? p- to neg on buck and pack+ to pos on buck? :grimacing:

Been a while but no. My headlight goes to the BMS chargeport. I didn’t find much info so I didn’t risk it

My favorite charge port connectors: SP20 https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Connector-Circular-Solar-Industrial/dp/B07BKW2TP2/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=2+Pin+Waterproof+Connector&qid=1621184547&s=electronics&sr=1-6

I like them because the dust cover screws on. There is no possibility of water ingress, and they will do upto 25 amps.

By any chance do you still have some? No worries if not, I’ll order elsewhere

Does anybody know the name of the new Linpower MK1 Charging plug?
I’ve seen that evolve hadean and maxfind uses the same port.
Thanks

This looks like a very good connector for esk8 use.
With that latch it even reminds me of a electric car charger plug.
Unlike other circular connectors listed here, including XT30/60, 3 pin variant doesn’t seem have the pins exposed so much, so you are less likely to melt your USB port like the guy above.
It appears there are metal and plastic variants:

I went for the 3pin metal type (might use third pin for some voltage cutoff for safety/antispark functionality).
Thanks!

I found the LP-20 and LP-16 ports to be too big and too much of a hassle. They also stick out really far, which could lend itself to getting bumped or kicked and breaking the enclosure where the port mounts. They look cool and the click sure is satisfying when plugging them in. They seem great for a trailer queen or hobby board but if you’re using it for transportation or using it really often or the board isn’t well-protected while charging, I would pass on those. I’d choose XT30 for high current (30A or less) and 5.5x2.1 barrel jacks for low current (4A or less) any day over those LP connectors.

Always fuse your charge ports. Double or 1.5x the intended charge current is a good rule of thumb for selecting fuse rating.

Yes I can see it’s protruding a bit and can end up getting hit, that’s why I went for the metal variant, and also I will need to place it in such location where it’s least likely to get hit, and also I am aware that at some point it will get damaged, but it’s something you can always replace.

I’m a big fan of the YM-20 connector. I was using the LP-16 for a while but was struggling with the safety cap constantly falling off mid-ride. The YM-20 stays put since it’s a screw on style cap.

Here is a picture of the YM-20 on my Flux:

To be clear, when I said

I meant while the charger is plugged in. They are monsters.

Gotcha. It’s never bothered me when it’s plugged in.

Quick question. My board has na 10s3p battery (Molicel P42A) and I already have a an existing charge port for a 2A charger. Now a bought a 6A charger and was thinking of just adding another charge port. So I can slow charge my board if i have time, and than if i need I can use the 6A charger for a quick top up. Could I theoretically use both chargers at the same time for an 8A charge if I’m really in a hurry?

Yeah i’ve paralleled chargers plenty of times.

I’ve always tried to be wary to unplug all but one of them before the board reaches full charge tho.

I can’t remember exactly why but i think i had chargers playing funny buggers when they were at full voltage.

There’s likely plenty of pitfalls with parallel chargers but i’ve never come across anything catastrophic.

Just treat it like a science experiment and do it outside :joy:
