CAD Ideas and Inspiration (Serious)

Yes! These are the comments I was looking for, thanks for the heads up!

Do you think these would work well?

did you make many of these models? or where did you find them?

oops meant to post in the CAD files thread

The trucks are from @ducktaperules , I’ve make a few minor changes to transform the in Infinity

The deck I’ve found on GrabCAD, just search for Trampa or Trampa deck

The rest I’ve designed, the wheels are or grab cad as Trampa Superstars

Here’s a link to some interesting designs for a CVT swerve drive for a robotics competition I did in HS. Probably not too hard to pull the CVT part out?

you can buy that here: https://www.torquetrans.com/blog/variable-pitch-pulley

I tried getting them for my 3 wheel swerve but ended up using a normal chain reduction in the end.

Can you please post the cad file for that enclosure

Spent some of today thinking about how i could easily make my own MBS style hangers, this is what I’ve come up with.

The idea here being that the axle can be made from a single piece of bar stock and the kingpin supports (dont know what you would call them) can be cut from 8mm sheet. The supports sit in a recess in the hanger and i hope this will support some of the weight and reduce stress on the bolts.

These should be standard sizes to keep cost down and i dont need to cut the whole thing as one peice from a huge single billet in my small cnc. it should also be easy to iterate axle designs and try to remove some weight later on.

Do you guys think this would be strong enough?
Anyone seen any other hangers using this construction method?

I know that Brad from riptide HATES the metal on metal kingpin idea matrix uses. Maybe a bearing would alleviate.

Not sure that he’d care to share his opinion on why though given his new brackets and work on hypertrucks…

Ive thought about it too. the balls in the bearing might get shredded quickly.

It’s a lot of downward force not rotating very much. I have to agree.

I wonder if someone could make a split wedge system where the kingpin hole is a flat bar with wedges on either side of it (4 total)

Purple is strong kingpin, blue is bushings.

Is this basically an evolve style double kingpin channel truck?

Well let me just Google that and let you know

Looks similar if we’re looking at the same thing except my bushings would be in a line perpendicular to the deck.

your sketch wheels are always perfect

roller bearings? or Kalyesque Angular Contact bearings?

I think it’s more of a tkp Channel style truck if I’m understanding correctly.

Im really no expert with bearings but I know some LDP trucks use spherical bearings in the bushing seat. Dont trip slalocybins

Probably better off with a brass bushing or something similar…
Bearings are (typically, at least) for high speed & low radial/axial loads.
Bushings excel in the opposite conditions.
I remember seeing a neat video about graphite-based bearings but I can’t remember the name of it…
