All the wowgos and the backfires and the meepo boards all look like planks tho the bustin was the the first descent look hub motor board, even the enertion raptors look like some sort of dinner tray.
This is really good range for that battery just FYI
Oh, it’s a nice deck. Definitely worth an upgrade in gear.
I think the best thing I can do is wait till someone who knows what their doing changes the esc ,remote, poss motors and gets some nice results then I’ll follow suit ,but as I’m not experienced in e builds only sk8 board riding ,I don’t want to start to throw even more money I don’t have at the board and find it still needs different parts .
Hopfully it won’t be long till I get the heads up on the correct parts .
Trouble is most of the guys I chat with are in the US and I’m in the uk so can’t even pop over to a seasoned builder not saying that there are great builders over here but I’ve not chatted with any that’s all or at least I don’t think I have yet .
Good to hear that i dont know much about batteries ill be honest but i was just going off what bustin had advertised so at least range is not bad then, what would be a good battery upgrade that would fit in the enclosure?
Yeah, could fit 12s battery, upgrade ESC and remote then the board would be completely different. Motors could probably take a few extra amps than what they have it set at. Would increase the torque. I am assuming this board is 10s. So changing battery to 12s would make it way faster.
You would have to buy a bunch of cells to figure out what will fit. But changing the esc, not sure how massive it is but looks larger than something like a unity which could allow extra space for more cells and more amps to the motors.
Great news if you would be my battery guy in this quest id appriciate it massively, my dad was an electrical engineer but it never rubbed off on me ha ha.
Keep me up to speed ref esc / remote upgrade and poss batt although I’m probably happy with the range but if a different batt pack would boost power then I’m down .
Yeah in this case it would be both remote and esc but only because the original is a two in one. Normally, the remote and the esc are kept separate. You’re based in the UK? I think we have a pretty big community here that are from the UK if you’re looking for someone local. Depending on your budget, you can probably replace both the remote and esc for about $150
How many cells you think are in this? Looks like 15 rows of (3) cells? 45 cells? It’s gotta be a 10s4p or 12s4p no?
Thanks that’s cool and yeh I’m in the Uk and 150 -250 would be the range of upgrade if it delivered
Basically I would like a better top end ,closer to the 30 advertised , 12-15 mile range and more torque possibly with a smoother curve than current .
What ever I need to get that I’d be keen on getting
So do you recon that the batt is good to keep ?
The ESC has the power switch, so if you swap out non HW/LY esc you’ll also need to add a loopkey or antispark.
That photo, sure looks like no BMS… Looks like 2 rows of 15, 30 cells, probably 10s3p. Can probably just add 6 cells to get to 12s3p but will have to upgrade esc.
If you upgrade the esc, the bottleneck will move to the battery. If you upgrade battery and esc, the bottleneck will move to the hub motors. If you also upgrade the motors, well, I guess you still have the original deck and enclosure, but it seems more reasonable to sell the thing as-is and start over?
I think the only reasonable thing to try is esc upgrade, whether to the latest generation hobbywing or LingYi, or to a pair of vesc (plus remote plus antispark plus maybe 6 cells for 12s). If that’s unsatisfactory, dump it and try a BKB kit or something more ambitious.
I’m all chatty in here because I find the platform interesting. I like these ESCs (and remote), and I think the dualmo hubs look interesting. Bustin has a great rep, and the enclosure looks nice. The prices, and the sales, have me confused.
BTW if the remote has jerky response (bad transition from deadband) it’s the earlier LY stuff. The latest stuff should have a good deal more punch as well as smooth control.
So in short if I want more power and a smoother power curve am I looking at a better esc plus remote at the very least ?
Yeah, and you could add 6 cells to the battery. And if you do so, add a BMS.
The best bang for the buck will be a HW or LY esc, which comes with remote and has a built in power switch. Around $100. It should give you something like 30-50% boost in performance (not like double). Maybe, depending on battery’s capabilities. And a smooth throttle. But along with performance comes more battery demand, so if the cells in that pack are weak, you’ll wear them out faster, maybe much faster.
Next step up is vesc x 2 plus remote plus antispark. cheapest would be a dual maker-x or flipsky for like $100 if you catch a sale, $30 for the remote, and $40 for the antispark (or $10 for XT90s antispark loop key). Though I personally would try to go for 2 x single vesc, maybe $60/piece. Optionally add 6 cells to boost unloaded top speed about 20%.
Upgrades beyond these will cost real money, so I’d think carefully.
I think the baseline for performance for diy builds is 10s4p 25r or 30q with 2x6355. It’ll perform well for just about any rider, and be reliable with good range. Some of the seasoned riders may be a bit bored with it, as they’ve gotten used to it, but no one would complain that it’s slow and weak. The BKB dual kit is pretty much the cheapest version of this, so there you go.
I’m not sure what to do but I’ll see if I can share this with a local group as I will defo need help in which ever route I take with the new parts . I want longevity and some added performance but it needs to fit in the current enclosure so I’ll have to see I guess.
Do the remotes that are available have LCD info displays ?
Some do, but if you think about it, this is actually not so important, after you’ve learned how your board behaves. IMO of course. In the worst case you can run a gps recorder on your phone to estimate distance and range.
The only “clever” thing about the video is it’s sped up.
