Bustin Hybrid Sportster Review

Yup, Hobbywing esc/remote swap is an easy solution or pop a couple of 4.12/4.20 singles in there.

Just putting it out there that’s what the motor experts have said

https://www.meepoboard.com/collections/esc/products/esc-for-v3?variant=29368200233054 $130 including remote. I think this is LingYi v3, but I’m not sure. Also don’t know about the going price. I thought they were cheaper!

I’d stay away from dual 4.12 (except unity) until they’re proven rock fucking solid. Unless they’re like $100. They should survive pretty good with modest settings. But even then, if one side pops, it’s very annoying. Do you replace with another dual? two singles? Going vesc also means you need to add some kind of on/off switch.

Yes, good call. Running the Maker-X dual with no issues still.

Yeah, it was I think $90 with the simple remote for a while.

This Hobbywing is sold out on Meepo site, but you can still get it from Ownboard or Wowgo.

I’ve just come back from a proper ride G4 and B4 as rest are shit . I did 7.7 miles although with 100mm wheels that’s slightly out ?I came home with 2 bars on board batt although it showed 1 bar as I came up the road under load .
Performance wise it’s how would describe as ok ,it’s just that nothing more nothing less .
It does about 12mph up the long uphill high st. That my GTX did 20 on .
It has an annoying jerk on the curve and kind of doesn’t have any response then suddenly does after a small move past the dead spot .Sort of unrefined but I guess I’ll get used to it .
At the end of the day I’ve bought it now and it will do and I’ll still have some fun on it but it’s in no way shape or form the board I thought I was buying and expected after reading the sales jargon and talking with the Bustin crew.
It’s average at very best .
Bottom line is I should of waited till I had seen a few V2 reviews as that was the one thing that was really lacking on the net ,Honest owner Reviews!!

I don’t exactly wanna get rid of the remote though… it’s beautifully unique and has vibrational feedback.

So guys with what you have now seen via Dave’s pics that have been posted am I looking at a expensive upgrade cost to get my V2 X up to close to what the actual advertised performance specs are ?
If I want to keep the enclosure
Get close to 30mph when needed (not often)
15 mile plus range
Smoother curve and not so jerky .
What sort of cost and would I be able to get help to get there .

The Hobbywing ESC is WAY smoother but won’t bring you any speed benefits. Cheaper vesc will also be smoother but will most likely result in performance gains, though that depends on whether or not your motors have unrealized potential. If they cheaped out on the ESC…

This is the video that did it for me… made me think all esk8ers rode like this.

Haven’t looked just yet but does it have screws? You may be able to find a small form factor remote and transplant it in. You probably will lose the LCD screen though :frowning:

Lol yeh I digged that but was still on the fence until I saw Ronnies YouTube review on the v2 .I thought ,here’s a guy that’s ridden a truck load of boards do should know if a board is good or not .Only trouble is I didn’t factor in his weight or lack of it hence he got 29.4mph and of coarse if was super flat where he test rode it .
Anyway no point in me moaning any further as ive made my bed as it were .I just hope I can get some help to make it a really good board when things start wearing out .

I don’t suppose there’s a nice performing board with quality esc and battery pack motors etc that I could transfer into my board enclosure and Paris clone truck ?
Not having built a eboard before nor do I gave great electronic skills ,a transfer might be a better option assuming the battery and other parts fitted ?

You can try selling your bustin prebuilt and buy a bkb kit. No real electronics skills needed!

From what I can tell, you may just need to swap motors and esc. The battery should be okay still. A lot of parts are somewhat plug and play. No soldering or expert electronic skills needed! Plus you have this community

You’re mainly facing hub issues right? I would pester bustin to give you a replacement or if you’re tired of going down that route, I’d look into getting a BKB kit. It’s a belt drive so it’ll be slightly louder but should give you better performance.

I’ve got a replacement hub sleeve and although this time round one of the inner bolts threaded holes is a tad suspect it’s locktited in and so I’m leaving it there .
Ref changing the esc etc would it be esc and ,remote or would I need to upgrade the hub motors to .Sorry if I sound a tad new but I am ref building .But I’ve ridden sk8 boards for over 40 years !

The board in vid was probably full charge. I tried this board at half battery, it had good speed and torque for a hub board at that voltage. If it were full battery I am sure it would have been much faster. There are slower boards out there. Range may not be up to spec but speed could be worse. If I were to buy a prebuilt I would have probably bought a wowgo 3x.
