Bustin Hybrid Sportster Review

That’s what I would do. Like Loaded, Bustin is a great skateboard deck maker who is still getting to know the ins and outs of the esk8 market.

They are also worryingly slow to respond…
i think i’ll just get a Yoface deck and pair it with my neohubs. enclosure might be a pain to find/make though, as every inch matters here.

I have asked if I can return it although I doubt that will be a yes . Even if I feel I haven’t got what I think they advertised performance wise . I can’t even see terms and conditions on their website so had to email them . I should of bought an Evolve Stoke it was just the range that put me off the most .

Or go with BKB.

Should BKB add an “Assembled” option to their full kits? At this rate of recommendation, they might be onto something…

I’d assume the price of labour will result in a much higher price.

They could, but I like the “half step” to DIY it represents.

Some people will gladly pay for it, who knows? Probably the newbie Raptor crowd after one or 2 or those youtube hype vidz

I’m wondering whether there’s also the yoface diy deck + enclosure package from them as well, as they do with the sportster - no harm asking

So I’ve just been looking at this BKB duel motor kit . Few questions
Has anyone on this thread got one if so is it as good as they say ,(not another Bustin talkup)
Are the trucks just cast Chinese jobs
Would the kit fit on the Bustin board I have
,I’m thinking not due to the Bustin drop down deck and the fact the bkb has belt motors so clearance without using risers on the Bustin deck which then takes the drop down benefits away .
Or could I use the same electronics but my hub motors ?

@Underoath888 does

I understand where you’re coming from, but this is a pretty transparent and well-known group of parts, offered by a trusted vendor who knows the DIY scene well.

I new on here and don’t want to ruffle feathers but I guess I’m just trying to find out as much info before I stick my hand I’m my wallet again .I really can’t afford to make second bad choice on this . I dearly I would like to get better performance and smoother power delivery out of what I have using the parts you guys have mentioned . This would be my first choice and hopefully the cheaper of the two .

No ruffling whatsoever. You’re right to be wary, but no one here would intentionally steer you wrong. We want as many good people enjoying esk8 as possible. But you can also just put the board back right, and ride it while you research and put together your own build outside of any kits or pre-built boards.

Cheers Bill ,I’ve looked at that duel motor BKB kit again and would love to know how it compairs to say the evolve skate board power etc as that’s really all I can compare it to but at £700 or about 750 with the blue tooth add on it seems a nice board in its own right assuming the power and range is good for a rider of 190 odd lbs . Makes me tempted .

@Fozworth69 there’s a ton of info there. This site has everything from beginner to ultra advanced. There is always better equipment.

I don’t own BKB dual drive. And there are pros and cons to it like every piece. I would would be cautious, as the BKB kit is designed to be mounted forward which may prove difficult since this is a drop deck. They are not designed for rear mounting

I would suggest you either ride or sell the bustin.

IMO, it needs everything replaced.
The rear drivetrain is the biggest influence on your ride comfort right now.
The ESC will need changed of you switch from those stock hubs
The battery will then become your limiting factor. Performance for 90-100mm wheels and that battery won’t be great, but it is rideable.
You also may have trouble fitting some of this new equipment, which is not designed to be plug and play for that board.

If the ride comfort is killing you. Sell and get one of the Chinese belt drives like wowgo or ownboard.
If you want to build, ride the board while you work on the next one. Eboosted will be offering enclosures for the bustin deck that will provide more room for batteries.

Think about import tax on a £700 package

I want to temper your expectations. These boards live a hard life. Most boards need repairs and mainenance. Prebuilt, lowend on highend diy, almost all of them. There’s also constant tweaking, to adjust performance, get rid of squeaks and rattles, fix something that you missed or broke or wore out. It almost gets worse with high end builds because there’s more high power components that demand more from the system.

You’ll likely continue to spend.

And once the bug has hit, most of us stockpile parts and fantasize about the next build. $$$

WRT the bkb kit, about everyone here would have been tickled if their first build was something like the bkb dual kit.

On the other hand, it is a budget kit, so there are parts that are just good enough.

Yes the import tax is horrible :frowning::frowning:

I haven’t ridden the Evolve, so I really can’t say. Here’s a review from a strong rider/builder:

So it sounds good. But if you don’t like it, you’re once again locked into a board where it makes more sense to sell than upgrade. With a BKB or your own build, you have the freedom to make changes later if you decide you want more of this or that. Plus you’ve pretty much unlocked the mysteries of building a basic board by that point.
