Bushing and Truck Setup Help Offered

On a single kick like the Schooner, I would likely go with a ShortStreetCone / Canon front and a ShortStreetBarrel / Canon back in KranK 90a. I would order a pair each of KranK 90a ShortStreetCones, ShortStreetBarrels and Canons so you have several options to try. Washer selection flat vs cup will also allow you to balance the system with or without the de-wedge of the back. Replacing the pivot cups with our WFB 96a will also make a big difference!

I’d love some advice whenever you have the time. I’m 190lbs and currently running a tomiboi MTB with 30° deck tips on 15° baseplates. My trucks are Luna 350 RKP. For the rear, I have a chubby 93a krank barrel boardside paired with a chubby 93a krank cone roadside. For the front, the setup is identical but with normal bushings instead of chubby, and the boardside barrel is APS formula, not krank.

I’d like to get some more turn out of the setup. It feels nice and playful right now, yet stable to 40mph. I do enjoy the current configuration. But I’m curious to see if there’s a way I can adjust formulas or durometers in order to increase my turn without losing too much stability.

OK help with some clarification of the setup. Is it a symmetrical configuration of 30 plus 15 front and back so effective 45 degrees? Also you refer to

Not sure of what you are actually using. We make Cones, Barrels, FatCones and Chubbys

Not sure about this either, what is a normal bushing?

Perhaps pictures of the setup will help me understand better.

Ah, sorry, I’ll clarify.

For the front, I’m running your longboard size bushings. Boardside is an APS 93a barrel, roadside is a krank 93a cone.

For the rear, I’m running a 93a chubby boardside and a 93a fatcone roadside, both are krank formula. I found that the bigger bushings were helpful in reducing a fishtail effect I was experiencing, which I chalked up to the super wide hangers.

I believe so, I’ll send a pic. I’m not home so this is the best I have handy. Symmetrical angles for both ends.

Edit worth noting: my rear baseplate is adjustable, so I can change the angle if you feel that would be beneficial

Hey Brad - I’m looking to outfit my Onsra TKP diy board with a new set of bushings all around.

The stock bushings give me great stability up to about 37 or so, but I want to keep that stability and get some turn back. It’s not very maneuverable at low speeds.

The Onsra TKP trucks are 45° TKP trucks, and the default setup is:

Rear: Cupped and fitted (protrudes into hanger) barrel on Boardside
Cupped barrel on roadside

Front: Cupped and fitted barrel on boardside
Cupped and fitted barrel on roadside.

I tried flipping over the cupped washer on the front, and that gave a bit more turn but not as much as I’d like. the bushings are all black, not sure how hard.

I weight about 175lbs and want to keep the stability I currently have, just get some more maneuverability at lower speeds

Hi. Ok i bet this has never been said before but i recently switched over to an evo 40 and its feels unstable. I came from an earthwing road killer 35in, caliber 50° front and back, 270 bn hangers, red cone and plug barrel venoms both cup washers and grey chubbys with the included flat washers at the back, pretty comfortable on 40-50mph. Kept everything the same except adding about an inch of risers to keep my clearance the same and of course the difference truck angles from the deck. On the evo at higher speeds it feels bouncy if i hit any kind of bumps with the deck shaking vertically and it feels like its mostly coming from the front truck, where as the road killer just takes the shock once and its gone. If i had perfect roads and no debris evo would be perfectly fine but nyc is far from that. I already tried angling the front down 7° and it helped a little. Curious if there are any opinions on how i can get the stability back, possibly through new bushings? The back works fine just tighten it all the way down but if you have a better idea for it im willing to try.

I do not think bushings are the issue. You might have a delaminating front section of the deck.

Hi Brad,

I bought a used set of Paris 195mm trucks (both hangers and baseplates), they appear to be V2 because they don’t have any V3 markings. I also already have Riptide Paris pivot cups installed in a set of boardnamics precision baseplates

When I tried swapping the pivot cups to the Paris baseplates, there seemed to be quite a bit of slop there that isn’t present in the BN baseplates. The cup seat is measuring at 18mm. Do you have a suggestion for which pivot cup size to get, or any insight why this might be happening?

It is likely the Boardnamics baseplate hole is tighter than the cast Paris so the cup took on a compression set and no longer will fit a Paris base plate. All it takes is a couple of thousandths difference.

That makes sense, thanks. I’ll order some Paris cups, they’ll be used eventually even if they don’t fit this baseplate for some reason

Hi Brad, I’m currently working with:

Boardnamics 270 Trucks (Final angles are 62.5 in front and 27.5 in the rear due to adjustable baseplates and angled deck nose/tail)
93A double Krank barrel in front/96A double Krank barrel in the back
Looking for high speed stability (~40 mph) and stability over the craters in NYC, but also manueverability at those higher speeds. The trucks feel relatively good right now I’m just looking for guidance
Intended use is primarily fast-paced group rides
Using the Magnetic 45 deck, front wheels (175 mm) are very near to wheel bite at full lean but don’t touch
110 kg rider weight

Personally I would scale back off the front angle a lot. 62.5 degrees offers a lot of turn for very little lean and that is not what you want for high speeds. You will have to experiment to find the sweet spot but I would not exceed 45 degrees up front and around 25 in the back. The 93’s up front and 96’s in the back should work but you might want to integrate a FatCone boardside front and a Chubby boardside back.

Hi again,

The skate shop I ordered pivot cups from said there was an error and they don’t have the correct size Riptides in stock. Are there any other sizes you’d recommend as acceptable for a Paris baseplate? I can’t find ID/OD numbers to check myself if one is close

Update: I ordered Riptide Caliber II cups. They seem close, and I have calibers to use them on if they don’t fit here anyway

Was just searching if this kinda thread was already there or not. Might start one up so people can show off the bushing combinations they reached via trial and error.

I recently got a hold of an Ares X3, and any advice on bushing would be helpful. Am around 175lbs, was wondering if an assymetrical setup would be neat.

Your deck has this correct? ā€œsplit-angle carbon fiber deck on the market. +5° at the front, -5° at the backā€ What stock bushings are on the trucks and can you provide the stock bushing heights?

Hi! yup,

Just realized y’all active on the forums. Stock Setup is 19/32" barrel with 1/6" inch high, 9/16" wide hanger insert boardside, and 9/16" roadside magnum 98as with cup washers. 7/16 inner and 31/32" outer dm.

Seems like both trucks are 45 degrees, so a total of 50 degrees in the front and 40 in the back with the split angle deck. Hangar width approximately 12"

Currently using 90a barrel kranks, running looser in front, tigher in back. Tends to turn well, but bumps get some front end wobble.

Want a carvy sharp turns, while minimizing wobble on uneven roads.
