Flats only, cups are rarely needed with them
@doomy and @Zawson, sorry for the delayā¦stuck in production. I will get to these later today hopefully
@RipTideSports Thanks for the previous advice. I swapped the front to flat washers and definitely noticed an improved maneuverability. Iām riding with a skate tool and slowly loosening up the trucks to see where it starts to be unmanageable. Right now may be my sweet spot.
OK @Zawson for a functional split, you will need 5 to 20 degrees differential and a lot of that is personal preference, since you are starting with 44ās you can get away with the lower end of the differential because the 44ās are inherently more stable and calm than the 50ās. At 125 pounds, you could have a lot of fun on a KranK 84a Canon / FatCone front and a Canon / Chubby back so make the split 5 to 10 degrees. I would just de-wedge the back in place of wedging the front and de-wedging the back unless you need really tight turning capabilities
Thanks for the advice, Iāll print some wedges between 5-10 degrees while the bushings ship. Canāt wait to try it out!
We can do a mixed pair of the Chubby - FatCone if you donāt want extras, just leave a note below the shipping options to take the pair of Chubbys you ordered and make it a Chubby / FatCone pair
Perfect, just put the order in.
For setup 1 if you can easily change the rear to 50, I would suggest doing it and leave the front at 54 degrees. Confirm the height if the Slant bushings but they should be around 15 mm tall. If so get 2 pair of KranK 90a Barrels and use cupped washers in the back and flat washers up front.
For setup 2 you need our ShortStreet height and standard Longboard combination. Flipping the hangers around will not change the angles, just the rake from positive to negative. Positive rake is more lively, negative is more dead in feel. If there is a danger of wheel bite, I will normally modify the deck to remove the threat of wheel bite. I would suggest ShortStreetBarrels / FatCones for this setup so you have a progressive ramp up in resistance. I would stick with the KranK 90a theme an just get a pair of 90a ShortStreetBarrels and FatCones
Hello RipTideSports!
Iāll skip my bushing-backstory, but I must say I would really appreciate any help. Here be the mandatory details:
- 2 identical common 184mm, 44° Caliber 2ās. Flat/thin risers. Looks like they have a 1" barrel and tapered barrel setup- canāt tell for sure though. Canāt find the original site for accurate details.
- Default bushings. Some hard, red 1" ones that I donāt know much about.
- Currently I lose balance if I lean too much because the bushings are too hard for my weight, but if the trucks get loosened to accommodate that, I experience severe wobbles. I donāt know about rebound- I enjoy pushboarding on completely loose trucks though, so I guess I donāt need too much of it. Does more rebound help with speed wobbles?
- Medium-speed carving and stability at 30mph speeds
- 41" Fiberglass-flex, top mount skateshred deck. Short risers with 97mm wheels. Slight wheelbites if really loose, but I could hesitantly yet possibly switch out for higher risers.
- 122 lbs/56 kg
There is no character development without a backstoryā¦
My bad, I mustāve overlooked the character development prerequisites. Here is the tale then: built a DIY board in 8th grade by impulsivey ordering the most budget friendly parts because I swindled my school into providing some funding. The trucks and their bushings are at a respectable age by now perhaps, as Iāve only reused those parts ever since. Then proceeded to crash from speed wobbles after getting too greedy for portability and swapping out for shorter and shorter decks. I went too fast for that wheelbase, and dropped skating for a couple years. Iām not sure why I stopped, but here I am, back at last with several upgrades to the board; such as an elongated-anti wobble deck. And now Iām being finiky over bushings apparently- carving is significantly harder than on a pushboard.
so that concludes that briefing, which I cannot gauge the relevance of⦠anyways is something additionally needed besides a backstory? I dunno- no urethane/blood sacrifices right?
This is perfect! Perhaps you can help me?
I am using these trucks: https://haggyboard.com/collections/trucks-accessories/products/copy-of-kahua-forged-precision-milled-trucks-front-back-truck
That came with these bushings: https://haggyboard.com/collections/trucks-accessories/products/set-of-92a-barrel-bushings-for-front-back-truck
And this deck: https://haggyboard.com/products/mana-one-07-deck-9ply
Well the board is not running yet, but i have encountered a (hopefully) small problem. That is, when i turn/carve, the motors bites the side of the deck. Thought about fixing it whit larger riser pads, but perhaps the bushings could do it?
I want a deck for a bit of joyriding and commuting. Mostly on streets/pavement, with occasionally gravel. Itās a very stiff deck, and i donāt need it to be ultra carving.
My weight without my usually stuff with me is about 105-110kg (Base weight is 101kg, but i usually wont skate around butt naked), and with bag, laptop, books and such more like 115-120kg.
Hey, Billgordon directed me here as im looking for a way to lose the wobble im experiencing at higher speeds.
Im running the Calliber 2 50 degreeās (the standard onesā¦184mm i think?) with itās stock bushings and bolts on a Landyachtz Wolfshark (2012) deck (no flex on this thing) and just feel unstableā¦hoping that different bushings will fix this. My weight is around 70 kilos. I have just ordered some boardnamics 220mm precision hangers too, so would be good if the bushings can work with the current callibers 2ās and the boardnamics ( iād be using the calibers 50 degree base-plate with the boardnamics hanger).
Itās currently not electrified, will be in the coming months, but just riding downhill (i wouldnāt even say that fast) makes it start to wobble - so i imagine that electrifed the problem will be more pronounced.
There is a tiny bit of wheel bite when i really lean into a turn (the wheels have sanded off the paint on that bit of the deck), but nothing strong enough to throw me off the board, just enough to graze the wheel areaā¦
I donāt have a riding style preference - kind of a noob to longboarding (though did skateboard in my teens - in my 30s now). I guess i d just like to go faster without feeling like im going to lose control.
I hope thatās enough infoā¦
Hey Zawson-
I bumped your account so you can post and message freely.
Welcome!
Sorry for the slow replyās but by the time I get to the computer I am a bit burned out. i promise to respond soon and I love the backstory @Spy
OK @Spy I suggest dealing with wheel bite, either add risers or mod the board whatever you do. As for bushings, your stock Caliber are normally in the 89 to 90 range so I am going to suggest going soft but big for a plush center. For the front KranK 84a Canon / FatCone and the back KranK 84a Canon / Chubby. I think you will really like the feel.
@RobinRubin can you confirm the heights of the bushings? It appears there are two different heights. Am I correct in saying very wide trucks and a narrow board? Bushings could perhaps reduce the motor bite but it is not a dependable way to deal with it. Better to mod the board or add risers
Great deck by the way! 50 degree trucks front and back are designed to turnā¦A LOT so stability with that setup comes after a lot of experience if you have the time and can withstand the pain of the learning curve. There are several paths you can take to gain stability.
If you want to keep the setup symmetrical, I suggest picking up a pair of 44 degree Caliber base plates, this will settle down the system quite a bit. If you are open to a split setup, just get one 44 degree base plate and use in in the back. This can also be done with angled risers. If you want to just simulate a split setup, you need to use harder bushings in the back than you are in the front.
Please let me know what path you are willing to take.
I can check the bushing height next time i am at the board (Got it at my in-laws workshop).
The trucks are very wide, and the deck is pretty wide (Fairly lot wider than my pintail pushboard).
Iāll rather try with some larger risers, before i mod the deck⦠But if i have to do it, then iāll do it. Thank you very much for your help!
