Bushing and Truck Setup Help Offered

PS - I am also awaiting an Exway Flex (on pre-order). Might as well get Bushing/Cup/Washer, etc. rec on that as well so I can order everything at once. I am sure I’ll be doing a lot of carving at a fast/fun speed on that setup and may appreciate a bit more feedback, without it getting too squirrely at higher speeds. I know it’ll only be a matter of (short) time before I sell the stock boards and venture into a DIY setup. Thanks again!

All good @lifelongadventurist, welcome to the forum! Could you post some pictures of the mini with the larger wheels? I would to see how much clearance you have with the larger wheels. I am also unaware as to what bushings will fit into the trucks so I need stock bushing shapes and measurements, especially their height. I would also suggest waiting until you receive the Exway Flex and riding it before replacing the bushings. It is hard to fix something that may not be broken.

Hi Brad @RipTideSports,
I’m currently working on building a hopefully awesome drop deck and I’m hoping you can help me choose some bushings/angles to make it ride nicely.

Here’s some numbers:

  • 37 1/4" wheelbase
  • 10" deck width
  • 1" drop, 1/2" thick (truck mounting surface is 1/2" above the foot surface)
  • 97mm wheels
  • 150lb rider
  • 50deg caliber 2’s

In terms of ride feel, I’m looking for something that is stable, but responsive. I don’t care so much about deep carving, but I do want it to be as quick and snappy as possible without losing stability. Top speed for me is 40-50 kph.

First thing get rid of the 50 degree rear truck. What options do you have available to you?

I don’t have wedges or anything on hand, but I have a pretty decent workshop and can make just about any size/angle of riser from scrap materials…

Hello.
First of all i appreciate the help offered here.
Now the tricky part… i have some chinesium bushings that are cooked and squeak when i even look at them, the baseplates are at 50°, the same “brand”, as well as the front hanger. They seem like the first results on ebay when searching for longboard motor kit. Boosted clones i guess?

On the drive wheels i will install a bn 220mm hanger, but on the front i prefer to save what’s functional, for now.
I’m yet to know exactly what i will need from this board, but as a baseline it will be for commuting to work at around 20km/h on typical london roads (streets are fine, but sidewalks are 99% pavement slabs).
Deck is almost identical to landyachts 9two5.
I weigh around 85kg and prefer something… stiff, i guess? I want to be able to do the tightest turn possible using just my weight, but without the tradeoff of having the board loose in lower turns. Any help is welcomed. Also, do you have physical stores in the uk?

Thanks Brad @RipTideSports! Pictures of the clearance and the bushings are at the link below. I couldn’t get backfire support to provide me with a direct response on the size of the bushings so I had to take photos for you. Curious to hear of your thoughts on replacement risers, pivot cups, bushings, etc. for the backfire mini. Also, great advice re: the Exway Flex. The more I research, the more I come across the “always replace stock bushings” crowd so figured I would inquire. Again, I really appreciate your advice! Have a great rest of your week! PS - it’s not letting me share a Flickr link or a photo on this post so I am adding a Flickr link to my profile.

Anyone know if the quantity on the order page is for two bushings or is per bushing… bit confused.

The pictures all show 2 x bushings per quantity so I assume that is what you receive but don’t want to mess up the order.

@RipTideSports I’ve always used a bit of lithium grease whenever I clean the trucks and put them back together. A dab between the bushings/washers. I remember someone once recommended to do so to have less wear on the bushings. Is this even correct?

@RipTideSports not sure if this makes sense but what would be more stable a 90 Keanu with cupped washer or a 90 magnum on its own…

Sold as a pair and we can make mixed pairs of same priced items if you want something special

Lithium, no. Silicone yes if you are so compelled. I see no reason to do this however.

I would say Magnum on it’s own and it has a different feel also.

@RipTideSports I’ll be coming to you later tonight I think with pics and help. Given this setup of 3Dservisas adjustable Baseplates and the 275 Fatboy hanger are not playing nice with my favorite bushing setup. Flat washer 90 Krank fatcone / cupped 90 Krank magnum up front on an evo with a 35 deg baseplate.

The bushings don’t sit flush so I’m gonna need to somehow work around it to get that same feel :slightly_frowning_face:

I’ll get you pictures and slightly better explanation after work tonight. I’m sure you’ll have a solution.

Thanks a ton in advance.

Hey @RipTideSports okay I’m back. I’ll do my best to explain this and not sounds too dumb in the process.

As I had mentioned earlier my favorite setup on my evo for the front end is a 35 degree baseplate (50 degree angle overall). I normally go with a flat washer and 90 FatCone board/ cupped washer 90 magnum road. I love this setup as it has worked wonders for me for a while now.

Unfortunately with the current baseplate and hanger I don’t think this option is feasible see picture below:

I guess the combination of the hanger and angle just isn’t working. Now if I remove the washer things work again

I’ve never setup bushings without washers so I was wondering if this is fine… or should I go with a different setup to maybe get a close feel.

I can get cupped magnum board and road idk if that’s a good option or even something else.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your FatCone appears to be flipped, the small end goes towards the hanger
