How does the m3 adapter work now, when previously it wouldn’t work?

The BN M1-AT drive cannot work with M3 because the wheel gear bearing is inner diameter 30mm, and the cross section of their profile cannot fit inside this envelope. It would take a new wheel gear to get them to work with the M3, which is definitely not desirable from my point of view.
