Well IMO if it was getting to over 70C consistently while charging I’d be concerned. Really depends on where it is in your enclosure tho

How do you know its getting hot? Hand feel? - I’m not being facetious, its a serious question

No totally valid.
I know it’s getting hot because my enclosure is for one easily removable, but aside from that have not run the charge leads out to the charge port I made hanging off my g300 yet.

And that’s because partly I’ve been so busy and actually just have been riding the thing versus continuing to give my time up to the bench

But having caught on to the heat situation, I have been charging with the cowl off while utilizing a small fan for a safe bet and that makes me feel a lot better than if I had no cooling with the BMS wedged in between the li-ion nunchucks

It’s now set for 12s

I looked through the rest of that tab

Looks okay to me I’m not really sure what I’d change it all working for now I guess the thresholds for protection side of the BMS could be snugged up if I wanted but it’s fine

I noticed “balance only when charging” is toggled off. That should be on ey?

I would turn on that setting yeah

You’ve got a massive heatsink if you were to thermal tape it to your lid (kind of annoying) but for real, I’d recommend getting a reading on it. I’ve personally charged up to 16a on mine at 14s and it got warm but it didn’t have any problems. I have mine mounted between my ESC and lower enclosure on Black Mamba, and it was reading like 40C on the outside of the enclosure

I mea yea it is aluminum, it is powder coated on the inside though, do you that will impede heat transfer?

I might honestly mount it to the deck vs the battery lid with maybe a square etched out where I have sanded through the powder coat, throw a thermal pad down and then design a small bracket to compress the bms onto the thermal pad.

I mean yeah it will impede it, but its not like youre going to have perfect transfer anyway. Alternatively if you just wanted more thermal mass you could stick a metal block on it

Ripped it really hard tonight
I wasn’t full charge when I left. I was about at just over 4 V per group it was on the charger, but I couldn’t wait any longer

Maybe rode for an hour or so then suddenly felt the board come to what I was obviously the Vesc discharg cut off ramp. as I was doing my second speed lap around the Rose bowl.

Did the walk of shame for a little and then called someone to pick me up lol :joy:

Something that kind of wowed me though was that the battery itself was warm to the touch like at least 45 minutes after I had stopped

I was little nervous because I didn’t think that heat would be an issue inside the battery

I guess I didn’t really truly give the board a break in that hour ride.

Also probably has to do with the amount of fiberglass tape around the battery. I don’t think it has any way to let heat escape.

I’m definitely going to be mindful of that now kind of scary to think what the actual heat level of it was while I was riding
