Also @torqueboards what is the thickness of the front plate of a 6380? Trying to find the right motor mount screws
Any way you can get a caliper down into the hole? Or some kind of way of measuring where the threads begin?
The BN220 has 36mm hole depth +13mm of thread depth. The thread depth is nominal, it is actually a little less because you canât run a tap and get threads all the way to the end of a blind hole. (they are very close because they use a plug tap).
The BN270 has a 37mm hole depth +16mm thread depth.
How hard have your torqued the screw down in the BN220? Maybe the thread is caught on something?
For the BN270, they reworked the threads after the anodizing to clean them up, so it is very rare that the bolt cant go all the way in. First I have heard the 270s ever having thread problems.
For the BN270 the crunchy side is the same depth so I think there is some metal debris or something in there which is filling the threads, I would drive the screw in to clean it but I know that will damage the hangar. For the BN220 the shallow side is actually 4mm shallower than the other side so there must have been something that got packed in there
Iâve been trying to clean out the BN270 for about 15 minutes and I keep getting this fine blue and black dust outâŚsuggestions?
Edit: it seems 20 minutes of threading a screw in, threading it out, and tapping it on a block of wood is an answerâŚI canât say Iâm 100% pleased but at least nothing as bad a the axles getting stuck, considering it only took 5 minutes to assemble both pairs of trucks I am okay with it, if it was different mounts I would have probably spent a lot longer fucking with them instead so overall I am happy. 9.4/10
Zachâs recommendations for Boardnamics trucks:
- 20mm screws for the motor mount plate to clamp connection and 8 nylocks to secure themâŚjust the 8mm screws seems kinda sus since its 13mm of metal
- some motor plate screws, the old mounts had some 10mm screws with them for connecting the motor and those were great
- maybe undersize the pivot nub or oversize the hole by just a smidge, 2 of the 4 were being a bitch to get in (I think itâs airtight or something, eventually they sit fine but they were really fighting back for a hot second)
- sandblast EVERYTHINGâŚgod I love that finish so fucking much
- QC the hangar holes and way over bore the threaded holes? If this is an one off then it is what it is but this wasnât an ideal experience. I have no idea how the grit got in there (feels like abrasive material from a super fine belt or something) but having 4mm of shavings packed into the bottom of the thread isnât good procedure for blind threaded holes. If the tap hole was way deeper and the threads ran farther in that would be ideal, at least 13mm of nice clean useful thread and then some clearance for being able to clean this stuff out at the bottom
By the way, for the adjustable angle baseplates, its hard to drop mount them as the different sides have different heights due to how the angle locking nut is held. If you drop mount it without shimming it with washers, it will sit in an angle.
Maybe the next version could have an equal height of aluminium on both sides of the baseplate?
Iâm not too worried, itâs not that big of a differenceâŚitâs a pneumatic build so itâs gonna be a big hard to tell thereâs a tilt at least
Also @jkoljo these are fixed, 50 at the front and 40 in the buttâŚI canât afford adjustable angles lol
Yeah and you seem to have fixed angle baseplates anyway
I just noticed that this isnât the @Boardnamics thread. Sorry about the offtopic.
Haha itâs all cool
This is too expensiveâŚI just poured $130 into all the hardware I need and thatâs just too much man. But at least we are on the way to having everything! Only the Metroboard group buy for tubes and tires then all the parts are accounted for
Wait no I need beltsâŚwho has 420mm to 435mm HTD5M 15mm belts?
So the front trucks look perfect, the axles go in nicely and it all looks great, but the back is giving me problemsâŚfirst of all the extra meat in the hangars is preventing the hub from sitting up against the axles because the pulley is already pushing against the mount, and secondly the idler isnât going to work because the 72T pulley is too close already. I think Iâll be okay by using a 2mm washer and getting the exact belt I need⌠otherwise Iâm kinda boned until the long motor mounts come out
P.S. these bad boys are gonna have some Trampa Urban Treads soon
Can you install the motor mount backwards? should buy you .25" if it doesnât interfere somewhere else
Yes and no, it can be mounted that way but the pockets that hold all the screws would be wrong. There would be a big air gap between the plate and clamp which isnât great
I think I can get some washers to do the job, I need them anyways. But yeah if all else fails Iâm installing them backwards
Ooh Black Bear is looking thicc from behind
P.S. @Boardnamics the BN270 do actually work with Rockstar II hubs and MBSâs polymer pulleys, you just need to bottom out the mount to the middle and use a 2mm M10 washer, but you absolutely need the right belts since the idler doesnât fitâŚbut damn it feels SOLID, I love it so much
Edit: 15:72 with 420mm belts is a magic number for these mounts
All the parts are now ordered! In theory I do not need to buy more things! We all know that wonât happen but itâs nice to dream
I tested the motors and the 6380 run at 154kv and the 6354 run at 156kv, that is using the ERPM at full throttle (95% duty) over the battery voltage at the time and again over 7 for the pole pairs
We got board tail ends! Cross Fox drivetrain is just missing the set screws on the motor pulleys, Black Bear is waiting on belts and pulleys and then I need to finish up the axle spacers
Since I canât get the idler in with the 72T pulley and the motor is a fixed position, the best option I have is to get the right belt and stick with it, in that case 15:72 with a 15T belt
I had to do some fuckery with the Sportster deck to get the wheels to fit, I added an extra set of holes so now there are 3 full sets, now the baseplates stick off the end but itâs all good since I just barely donât get bite on the front, the Faultline deck should get the same treatment but itâs okay
Hot tip for the new BN mounts, if you use an M4x20 socket head you can put a nylock on the other end and then it hella secure
The Cross Fox build has been removed from this thread and now has itâs own dedicated thread here
