Hey All, Posted in the newb chat, but figured I would start a post here to try and get targeted feedback.
I’m a big dude, ~350 give or take, 6’2". Size 14 snowskis
I wakeboard and snowboard, and since I got rid of my boat last season, I need something to “wakeboard” in the summer. So I’m looking into esk8. Purpose would be general carving/cruising on streets and likely hardpacked trails, and rough streets. Possible commuter to/from school in the future. Top speed ~35mph, but most will be sub-20
Weight - trying to keep ~50lbs or lighter if possible.
Rough build list/plan currently, but open to suggestions as I am sure there are plenty of things I am unaware of.
Board - @tomiboi deck, likely the Warlord 40", 35*/35* or the Deathwish 42" 35*/25*
(Thoughts, suggestions?)
w/a double stack undermount enclosure, can someone explain difference between single/double stack? I can’t quite figure it out from googling.
Just means the battery is either a single layer of cells tall (single stack) or 2 layers of cells tall (double stack). The 18650 or 21700 cells used to make underslung battery packs are typically laid down on their side and lined up end to end in order to make a “flat pack” battery that fits with the dimensions of skateboards better.
@Evwan’s bundle is a solid deal IMO
I actually have those rtkp trucks and 4GS gear drives on my Boardy McBoardface MTB, I only have good things to say about them.
I’m pretty firmly in the Z mote camp, if you’re in need of a handheld screen though the flipsky VX4 seems to be an alright option especially with the 3DS upgrades
If you’re not picky about telemetry being on the remote there’s also other options for telemetry such as Voyage Systems Megan/Minnie which will both create “ride logs” where you can view recorded data from your ride.
Example:
This can be incredibly helpful for tracking down issues, and also really fun to look at if you’re a nerd like me!
For @Grommit
The SKP solo ESC that @Evwan is selling has a Metr module built in which (correct me if I’m wrong) gives you most of the features of Megan/Minnie without integrated GPS, or a board mounted screen.
So I am def thinking of going down the path of buying @Evwan 's package as this will be my first board, and that would be a solid start.
So that, plus a deck, I’d really only be left with a battery.
I do not want to build my own, first try, does anyone here have suggestions for getting one built?
the Hubba hubs from Tomiboi though, looks like they say they fit 6-8’ tires mostly, any opinions on tires or good places to check?
I was thinking of starting with a tire similar to the MBS Roadie? Or the MBoards Nove in 8" as well
I replied to your DM, but just to note, the hubba hubs are quite wide. The MBS roadies arent great tires in my experience, and i’m not sure how well the novas will stretch. I recommend these tires and tubes. They have good wear characteristics, great balance, and good comfort
Just an FYI also, there is a new VX4 Pro available now that has a larger hall sensor thumbwheel throttle vs the old small pot version. Looks like other features as well but I haven’t done a deep dive on it.
Ooook. Long story short I had the talk with my wife.
She supports me getting into the hobby, but isn’t as ok with the price tag of a used car to start.
Also we agreed to wait until we moved (have been seriously looking for a while now). Unless a really good prebuilt deal comes into play. She wants me to save $ by buying a used board first to see how much I get into it before splurging.
Makes sense to me
Currently it’s $1500 for the full board. I believe it’s that low. I spent about 5000 or 6000 on it. You can Google SKP magnetic for the listing
But yeah, I think there are a couple other boards for sale and you should absolutely not but new, the used market is flooded with unbelievable deals currently.
