I’m planning on a budget DIY soon. Using all used parts if I can except for a new battery. I’m going back and forth on remotes though. I can get a used flipsky vx1 or a BOB voyager for around the same price ($35). What would you recommend? I really want to keep the cost low for this build. If you have any other cheap recommendations I’m happy to listen. Thanks!
Probably a Mini Remote (no remote is universally agreed, people are very passionate for good reason about not losing control at high speeds), they’re repurposed PWM remotes from an RC car. They’re so ubiquitous that you see them on here for like $10 when someone realises they have too many, I paid like £17 for mine new a year or two ago, not sure what they go for at the moment
These things
The vx1 Is a good remote
But it’s flipsky, so no qc, which means you have a 50% chance to get either a good one that will be forever good, or a meh one that will have issues…
That’s not a bad choice per se, just be aware of it and stay carefull
BoB is a more trusty brand, but I would not buy an overpriced nunchuck remote in 2023
I just edited that thread. I can’t recommend the Mini anymore while the Z.Mote exists… though it does cost a bit more.
What country are you inside of?
Depending on your answer, a lot of folks around here may have extras.
Yup yup, I was more answering the budget question because it’s (generally) good, and cheap. Also I haven’t used a zmote
Hahahaha I just realised this is actually a very good argument to buy a used one. If you’re buying it from anyone honest and it’s used, probably fine
The dual trigger zmote is really really good, and I was all against the idea of trigger remote before it
1 more vote for the z-mote, @Zyb (creator of the Z mote) is exemplary in terms of communication, and service as well. Can’t recommend enough.
It’s from my college skate club DIY and we have had no issues. Before that it was part of a boosted DIY so now it’s been through 2 DIYs and still going strong
Since it’s been used for 2 DIYs with no issue I’ll prob go with the VX1. I just need something sus gonna work ok for a campus board.
I’m in the US. At school in west SC but I am from DC area so both are accessible to me.
Just to reiterate
I have 4 VX1s. Of those 4 only 1 is working without issues. That one has been working flawlessly for over an year and probably around 2000 kilometers, still going strong.
1 disconnects about every 50 km or so. 2 couldn’t even connect to the receiver * until I opened them up. While I touch the antenna with my finger or a piece of metal they connect but as soon as the antenna is not touching anything somewhat conductive it looses connection instantly.
TLDR: Don’t buy new VX1s QC is shit.
What epiphany did I miss?
Next thing I know we’re gonna see “now that the truck-mounted Li-Ion Thug-Vaporizer 9000 is out I can’t recommend esk8 with a gun anymore”
I guess I’ll feed the troll.
The answer to your question is immediately following the thing you quoted. But we all know you don’t actually want to know, and just want to start drama.
You could spend your energy helping people instead of being negative. Just an idea.
I was being serious but i also chose to poke fun at you.
I’m not up to date on the z.mote - but google showing that it looks close to $80?
Wondering what makes you default to it over the $15 mini remote & what advantages it may have over a puck. Puck would seem like the choice if going that $ range.
as someone not in the US and hence needing international shiping (and not even talking about the added VAT), that makes the puck not the same $ range at all, more like twice the price,
Also the dual trigger thing, once again, is the best thing I’ve tried in term of esk8 remote so far
Puck doesn’t offer trigger options, so it’s not even considered for some folks who want a more ergonomic control. Z.Mote is available in two trigger setups and a scrollwheel.
I’ve tried both, I wanted to like the thumbwheel one, but the dual trigger was much better in all point of views,
not only that the system is better, but also you can tell that kamen had more experience when he designed the case, it’s a lot more ergonomic
