Beginner Question Thread! 2023 Edition

I feel like we should stop helping people with other things until issues like these are resolved by them

I tried the multi meter on the switch, nothing happened.
Is there anything I can do to test the esc for life?

I tested with the multimeter, the joint was transferring electricity fine. But when I put the multimeter to the vbatt and sw prongs, there was no sign of electricity.

This was also transferring electricity fine. Doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be fixed asap.

I will fix that joint, all I was saying is that that was not a reason for the speed controller to not work. So it must be something internally or I don’t know how to test if the esc is still working.

Multimeter. Multimeter. Multimeter.

Number one tool when working with electronics.

I just said I was using a multimeter…? it showed zero when I put it to the prongs in the esc, is there another way to test if its alive?

Matbe send a message to @YUTW123 at makerx to troubleshoot

I just did.

I can’t afford for it to be fried :joy:

On the bright side you probably learned a lot from this experience.

Doesn’t feel quite worth it :disappointed:

Can’t really tell if anything looks distinctly wrong.

Is there someplace with in there that I should test with the multimeter for power?

I know you can probe some points on the DRV chips and MCUs to see if those are okay, and assuming those are it might just need a reflash

not too sure though I haven’t saved many vescs from oblivion.

man i did not notice that switch diagram on the case, til your vid called it out.

so… i guess the case is the D100s docs. ( I coudln’t find anything else from makerx on the usage of the sw port ) .

the thing I did find seems to contradict normally open, did it vary?

or were these posts incorrect?

also, weird that it uses vbat for a switch i’d have thought it’d use logic level voltages.

Hmmmmm if they are nc switches then maybe the pins need to be bridged when the power is plugged in, and then when that circuit is broken the esc switches on?

Speculation tho. I would wait to hear from David at this point. We’ve traumatised the poor kid

Just going off of the old broken switch and the way it was pined. I would have thought it would use the 5v also or just take the switch low.

You can see the original here. Yellow are set to jump vbat to switch ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If this was the case though, the esc should just turn on as soon as the power is plugged in with no switch plugged in?
