Beginner Question Thread! 2023 Edition

I saw something like that happen once when i was hooked up without the B- main being hooked up… somehow it changed the readings on the low end.

And then similarly i’ve seen that kinda out of wack happen when a balance lead isn’t properly connected perhaps 2nd balance lead. tho u seem to have ruled that out.

last when i converted one from 10s to 12s I ende dup having to run calibration … (and I guessed at it how to do it. i had the desktop llt app and serial connection… didn’t have docs. ) maybe try hooking up another BMS first to see if it reads correctly?

Yeah the b- main is connected, verified connection is good with a meter. Took a reading from 0 on the JST to every P group and everything is right when it should be. I’ll look for the desktop app. Don’t have another BMS to test with right now.

maybe plug in the JST and take a reading off the board to see if the pins making good connection?

That’s not a bad idea but I’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Going to email the manufacturer in the meantime.

Ok this is kinda funny. I only ordered the LLT one because I had given up hope on the Daly I ordered ever showing up. Checked the mail just now and…

Have folks swapped over to puck 2.0 controllers? Any feedbacks?

99.9% (statistic founded on zero science) of the time this happens because it’s wired incorrectly.

Got anyone who can sanity check you?

That was my thought too but voltage readings at the JST connector from each P group back to the negative wire were all what they should be. I even traced each balance wire out while removing it from the pack to make sure it was routed to the proper P group. No clue what I could have done wrong here.

It’s silly but have you tried any percussive maintenance techniques? Wiggle it around and tap on the connections while looking at the app. It looks so much like the p2 group connection is loose - did you solder the header pins on the backside of the bms to setup the thing to 18s or anything? Could the header pin be loose ? Test at the back of the header on the bms. If nothing works it may be doa which sucks

Definitely tried wiggling everything with no luck. I don’t know about soldering header pins so if that’s something I was supposed to do then that may have been the issue. Sticker on the unit said it was set up for 18s li ion. Either way it’s all ripped out and sitting in a bucket. If the Daly has issues too then I’ll know it’s user error.

Have a link to the one you got? Many of them need you to jumper between the header pins or have multiple traces to the p2 group in order for them to work correctly. Some pics of the wires or the back of the bms header connection would help but honestly if the daly works it works. Make sure the connections are a direct swap and not reversed polarity though :kissing_heart:

It doesn’t say that I need to do anything special on the website. Maybe it’s common knowledge with these so they don’t mention it. I’ve never used this brand.

Edit, the Daly BMS seems to be working fine. Gonna chalk the last one up to no fucking clue.

I’m having issues updating firmware on my d100, it says that the firmware is outdated but won’t let me download new firmware. It might be a simple fix but I don’t know my way around the Vesc tool very well yet. Oh and it won’t even let me run the motor wizard without new firmware, it did before.

Don’t upgrade to 6.02, keep it on 5.03 or whatever that it ships with. Makerx stuff doesn’t like vesc 6.xx firmware, and it can cause them to blow up. Just ignore the outdated firmware message.

If you really want to reflash firmware, download it off the makerx website.

Vesc tool 6 with vesc fw5 was a disaster in my experience.

In my opinion, if you’re using an outdated fw, you should use the corresponding outdated vesc tool as well.

Also anecdotally I found 6.02 to be almost flawless, but that was with solos so can’t really compare apples to oranges there

Hmm ok, how do I find the older Vesc tool?

It’s…annoying difficult. Though not too bad.

Here’s some forum resources.
