@Skyart what soldering iron do you use for big ass wire and braid?

I use my Weller for just about everything, and I use a fat tip when I solder series connections, braid or wire, let me link

Works real well, I also have a fat 75w ironā€¦but it makes a mess lol, hard to controll all the heat it puts out

I have a 140 watt weller and I can barely get 8awg to go into a QS8

Hmm, is it old? Might not be heating up enough. I think the one I linked with a fat enough tip and a little time would do ok on 8awg

Itā€™s brand new out of the box. Donā€™t get me wrong itā€™s crazy powerful, I think youā€™re right about the tip choice

Is the tip tinned and making good internal contact?

Iā€™ve never soldered 8awg before, but my 40w weller handles 10awg fine, but if the tip gets too dirty or I try to do too many in a row, it will slow down

Get a fat tip on that puppy and make sure its clean and tinned

How do you guys clean your tips? lol

I use a wet paper towel and brass mesh stuff

yes. I also put some flux into it so it comes out nice and shiny.

Are you guys talking about my fat tip again?

Sponge, donā€™t wipe, dip

Seems the conversation has swayed that way
