looking for a good pulley puller that wonād damage the flange for $12 or less. Anyone got any top picks?
I noticed my motor speed is not stable at low speed when riding. Almost like itās losing power every few milliseconds. Does it have anything to do with motor not spinning at the same time when on bench?
Im guessing the answer will be ānoā⦠But is it possible to use the evolve GT esc to run hub motors?
@glyphiks The answer is āit will probably work, but I donāt know if it will work well.ā
I read somewhere that typical hub motors have 28 poles, where typical outrunners have 14. Considering the evolve esc is not programmable, I would assume that it is set to control a 14 pole motorā¦
How would this affect performance?
Maybe its an unsensored thing then idk. I very rarely have to unplug my phase wires once the set up is complete. swapping to get rotation correct has always needed a detection.
Single wire discon has happened to me twice and both times the motor stuttered.
@taz. While I like you dude I only comment about things that have actually happened to me. Real world experience is all you get from me especially in this thread because theory is all fine but experience is what counts.
I donāt think It will explode but I doubt it would work well.
I see you are rebuilding a BajaBoard!
edit: not sure what post I was thinking about seeing recently
I have been interested in designing and building a AT board with suspension similar to the BajaBoardās. Would you possibly help me with some dimensions/geometry in the future?
I get what you are saying but do you see how my Evo used to be? The motor bullets got plugged in the enclosure. I used to unplug them when working in the enclosure and I had numbered them so I didnāt mix them up and did not have to do a redetection.
So I am also speaking from experience here. It just so happens it is different to yours.
Cheers dude, will have a read later.
Haha constantly rebuilding my baja, just shout if you need something
Yeah mate but I didnāt tell you to take off your socks.
I only need to do that on 4wd.
Seriously I think that no matter who or what or what build everything can just be different. Its all so new. We have different set ups. I run unsensored on everything. Might be a factor. idk.
Never really concerned me. I know how to get it going is all that does.
True, this electronic mumbo jumbo is out of my league anyway. I just know how to make it work.
Generally motor controllers donāt care about the physical layout of the motor (poles vs. coils) as long as the final system behaves the same (three sets of coils).
The potential issues are more along the lines of different inductance, resistance, sensor setup, and current draw.
TL;DR: For those using a car battery welder ⦠what is the minimum CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) I should use?
So, Iām using a 12v battery from an old UPS. Iāve got everything wired up, and it makes all the right sounds but ⦠it just wonāt weld a god-damn-thing! Iāve checked (and replaced) everything from the switch to the welding pen ⦠everything with the exception of the battery.
So, I check the amps and the battery pushes just 5.4 amps. Nothing right? So I checked out car batteries and it seems that they go from about 270 CCA to over 910 CCA. I think 910 CCA is likely to burn a hole through my cells, so what would be a good CCA? Is 270 enough or do I need something more?
This is my first car battery welder and Iām a little bit lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I also talk from experience about that case. One phase got disconnected and had to plug it in again an then moved on without redoing the motor detection.
Around 600A
Perfect! Thatās exactly the information I was looking for! Many thanks for your help.
We figured it out, his battery took a large impact that cause on of the welds to break and do other things.
ālaunching his board off a curb and sending it flying is what may or may not of cause the issueā
Sounds like dual drive? If there is some traction control setup the wheels may not spin together or if there is a difference in the signal interpretation between multiple VESCs but not enough info here to guess really (disconnects could be loose receiver or some other loose components or not enough power for receiver, using metr module or similar telemetry can help diagnose and get more info about unknown issues happening on the move). Would say either get telemetry and post more details or do more thorough bench testing (slap it around a bit).
