Archived: the OG noob question thread! 😀

The adjustable baseplate is significantly taller. So putting it in the front willl make the front taller than the rear. Be sure to add risers to the rear. The front and back don’t need to be even but if one’s gonna be taller it needs to be the rear.

hello, I have a problem, I bought two vesc with firmware 3.38. when I connected to my pc in BLDC tool, it showed a message saying that the firmware was too old. so I began to use VESC tool, I updated the firmware to 3.62 and I was trying to connect the motors clicking in wizard >setup motors FOC, but when I clicked on run detection the light red in the vesc blinked 3 times and appeared a window saying detection failed reason:-11 , so I went to the terminal and there appeared " fault: fault_code_drv", I tried this with and without the receiver conected to the vesc and it gives the same message, I don’t know if this information is matter but I clarify that when I conect the receiver with my vesc it always remains blinking , I tried to push “bind” in the transmitter and turn on it and a red light remained in the receiver and a green blinking light appeared in the transmitter however I tried again the whole process and it didn’t work. so I have not been able to use the motors, I am not a professional, this is the first time I build a skate , I hope you can help me, thank you

I use two lipo bateries of 8Ah an 22.2 v, conected in serie
and two motors sk3 6374 of 149 kv
and one transmitter GT2B

I told @marco to come over here from the other forum to see if you guys can help him.

It seems that the drv on one of your escs seems faulty/damaged. were you riding it before?

Does this happen to both VESC’s or just one? Have you tried switching the VESC to another motor?

what kind of bearings can I use to mount skateboard wheels (i have @torqueboards 110mm in mind) on my 12mm mbs matrix shafts?

i’m willing to consider splurging on different trucks with 3/8" shafts if there are better bearings available to make this work

I just tested the circuit with one motor , one vesc, and one batterie and it worked  but do you know why it does’t work with both batteries connected in serie and the vesc conected each other with can-bus?

Have you set them up as Master/Slave? And you’ve ensure that they boths still work independently?

no my friend, I have not configured master/ slave, how could I do it?
and yes I connected them independently and I used the wizard motor in vesc tool and they worked well

What’s the consensus on having one more cell in parallel or using 30t or 40t cells for example I can either fit a 12s4p 30t or 40t in my enclosure or a 12s5p 30q

It all comes down to what you need.
12s4p 30t= 1.2 Ah at 140Amps
12s4p 40t = 1.6Ah at 120Amps
12s5p 30q= 1.5Ah at 100Amps

I got a BT module from BKB. Is there anything I need to know about setting it up? As far as I can tell I need to switch to Ackmaniac FW. Anything else?

You can use Ack or VESC tool, older versins but Im not sure which. Set your control type to PPM and UART, set the UART speed to 9600 bps.

hi marco, i’m kinda new here too. while i could not figure out how to get the VESC-Tool wizards to work for me, i was able to configure each ESC separately without using the wizard screens

zach I cant use BLDC tool the vesc dont allow me, there appear “firmare too old”, that is why I am using VESC tool version free and if I am not wrong in this version is not necessary master / slave but I am not sure
sesat might you tell me how please
the wizard works for me when the vesc is conected only to one battery(22.2 v)6 cells
but when I conect the two batteries in serie 44.4 v 12 cells, there is when appear the error that says “faul_code_dvr”

@mmaner Im currently on VESC 3.59 with the baud rate set right and I cant find the module with my phone? From my phone bluetooth I can see a device called HMsoft which is probably the module but I cant connect to it and the app doesnt seem to recognize it either.

Have you set the control type to PPM and UART? If so, try the Ack firmware, see if that changes anything. You can always go back if you prefer.

Ackmaniac doesnt detect my motor  and even just setting up the App side I still cant detect the module with my phone.

EDIT: Ive gone back and forth between ACK and VESC and nothing seems to work, the Baudrate is 9600 and the control is set to UART+PPM. The module has a flashing red light but I cant connect to it. @BuildKitBoards any advice?

Just to clarify the BLDC tool is the name of the old version before there was a “VESC Tool”. If using the latest desktop configuration app ( I think 1.25 VESC Tool) and flashing the firmware for your hardware is a good place to start IMO.
