the v1s are quiet and i believe the v2s are even more quiet

So, how is this going?

Sorry about the lack of activity from me, I’ve was on holiday in Scotland last weekend. I’ve been trying my best to promote the dives elsewhere, and planning how to move forward. It may well be that I wait until my business has built up some capital from EUC sales before going ahead with manufacturing the first batch of gear drives. We would then sell them as a stocked item rather than a pre-order, as it seams like most people are not willing to wait for a pre-order.

@Archer, I would love for you to be successful with your venture and am totally interested in what you are offering and could be a potential customer.

When I first read about it I got excited about the product and excited for your potential success but the BS reference really put a bad taste in my mouth, especially when it references two drive systems I own and I think are each great in their own way. By the way, you mentioned you would remove that reference but you still have it right in the original post here in this thread.

It would really help to see and hear at least some video of the drives running. Why don’t you make a video you talking about it and showing the fine points and show it in action. Can even just be on a bench. That way your potential customers also get to know you beyond a handle and some forum posts. I don’t know if you’ve considered that many people don’t just buy based on the product alone but on the relationship with the vendor. When that relationship is strong, people are much more likely to take a risk on a purchase.

Good idea I think over the next week or so I will put together a tear down video of the gear drives so people can see what they look like after 6 months of use, and how the drives generally fit together and function.

For me personally, the discount is not worth mucking with the pre-order process. I’m not suggesting the discount is not enough but simply that I expect to see the product on the site and just order it and receive it. If you put it up there, I’ll buy a set but I do want to see some video of it in action and I want to feel like you’re going to be around for the long term to support it and provide parts.

Thanks mate I’ve has similar feedback from a lot of people stating that would love to buy the drives if they were in stock and ready for immediate dispatch. As I said to @Bavioze that may be the rout we take if the pre-order is not successful, yourself and others give me confidence that people would buy them. We would still sell the first batch at a discounted rate and would consider providing sets to reviewers also.

Here is a video of me riding my board with the V2 prototypes installed. For the V2s one of the major design changes was reducing all the dead space within the drive in an attempt to keep the grease close to the gear teeth, this also had an effect of reducing the noise.

I have a hard time believing that the hub adapter won’t flog out with how little meat is left around the contact points. Seems pretty much the same as how the BN AT M1s were designed.

The BN drives have bolt threads slotted through untapped holes in the hub adapter I believe, I saw photos of the metal flogging out as well, that’s why I took a different approach.

The hub mount on my drives accepts the M4 bolt heads which have much larger radius (7mm) compared to the bolt threads themselves and thus less of a pressure point on the aluminium hub mount. The bolt heads are also smooth rather than serrated like the bolt threads, this allowed the use of a slight press fit into the hub mount. There is no sign of wear after 6 months of use and no play in the fit either.
