I have a dell xps 15… with a chinese battery off amazin, cuz the first one stopped working. I keep that battery in a cardboard box under my bed. Yeah… I think my board is far from being the biggest fire hazard in my dorm.
I wish I knew… Maybe I’ll open the board up and have a look… I’ll text Ernesto.
Haha yah what I said doesn’t help the case much I guess but point was even the big guys with a stamp mess up sometimes and sort of up to us to keep things as safe as possible (calculated risk and risk mitigation, in your case fire detection and suppression a fire proof charge station might help but guess is stuck working around the rules rather than getting them to change)… Maybe you can power it from old Dell laptop batteries
@fredih
I would get the ban in writing from someone with authority because otherwise it sounds like your residence director is on a power trip. They will probably argue that the battery its not certified. As It would have more WH than is flight safe it wouldn’t meet that irrelevant criteria anyway.
The pack is no different in concept to one that might be used for a disabled student who uses an electric wheelchair.

Perhaps ask Ernesto for some photos of how he builds his packs are built to address the safety concerns.

Make a legit looking sticker for the pack/bottom of the deck to show them it “complies” with a relevant standard. This might calm them down
All very good but if you construct a pack then that pack has to have certification and not the individual cells. Afaik the only manufacturers to carry such are boosted and evolve.
Your best bet is to speak through their wallet, and let them know you’ve decided to attend university elsewhere next semester; and you won’t be needing their housing.
They probably don’t give a shit. They have so many sudents lined up waiting to spend their student loans it’s not even funny.
So sad that an institution of higher learning would turn a blind eye to to future of transportation.
Just… ignore the university. I’m at Denver and their policy says I can’t have my board but a bunch of people have them. Campus security doesn’t care, they actually think it’s cool. As long as you’re being responsible it shouldn’t be an issue.
look at him, goes to college and turns into a social dissident…
they wont give a shit lmao
The further away from campus you live the cheaper rent will be plus you get to ride more. Win win.
get one of those “airplane certified” stickers
Or get a smaller stealth board.
There was a thread a while ago, and the verdict was one of the leecoo boards?
If their objection in lithium ion you can try a nimh or lead acid build. If it’s homemade noncertified packs you can maybe do a build using tool battery packs.
Otherwise, push boards are great fun. Love my vanguard, superglider, LDPs, etc.
Get a gas powered 2 stroke engine on that bad boy and annoy the shit out of everybody until they drop that policy. Make sure to let everyone you see know that the school allows noise, pollution and a large carbon footprint, but not your future tech, whisper quiet electric personal mobility vehicle.
Maybe he can use drill packs, check if the uni engineering dept has drills on site and claim they need to get rid of them if he isnt allowed his?
Not a bad idea. I have thouggt about making a board with drill battery packs.
Its actually a really good cost effective solution to a plane ready board too, because the packs are typically okay to fly with and already have a somewhat modular system to them so they are super easy to remove and clear though TSA/Security.
Then how come we dont ride?
We totally should. @Argent is here too.
I know most of the P-Safe guys here too. I don’t think there’s a single person that hasn’t seen me on one of my boards at this point, I’ve been riding both my boosted and kaly here for two years now… All the officers know about it tooo, two even tried out the Kaly (without killing themseves, luckily). They’re cool with it.
