All new 2019 vesc-tool

Looks like you create a csv file with your phone and then load it to your PC and open it in VESC Tool afterwards. So no mobile network connection needed.

There is nothing magical or limiting to run gps in the background for Android as long as you implement it as by the guidelines and ask the user for the correct permissions. It’s very strict on how you do it so you don’t give the user a bad experience by draining their battery or trying to track without showing it when it’s active.

Just flashed the new FW and updated to 1.20 app :+1:

Gonna give it a go tomorrow

guys, i thought the app was supposed to remember all vesc settings but i updated the firmware and all my settings are lost. i have to set everything up again. is it normal or am i supposed to save it somehow before updating the firmware?

I think it’s normal when you updated the fw, if you only update the app and not the fw then I believe the settings will stay :+1:

If you save it in the vesc_tool to XML before an update it will reapply after. The format of saving settings has more detail and can be restored, versus the protocol communicating over uart is more lightweight and will no longer be able to communicate after each update. I believe there are plans in the future to make it partially work after an update.

Pair it. Easy. Pairing button is next to SCAN.

I’ve been using this app on Google for the past 2 months. I noticed something odd lately with the motors but just can’t pinpoint what - they just sound a little ā€œoffā€ under bldc mode.

Today, when I update the fw I do the foc setup as usual, then choose bldc afterwards and change some settings, batter max, min, etc. Lastly, I go to the tools/directions and test the motors. I notice that the main vesc and the main motor sound loud in bldc - as it should. But the second motor sound soft like it’s still running FOC. Using the remote I listen carefully and it does seem like one motor is in bldc and the other in foc. Weird? Anyway I’m using FOC now but really prefer bldc for the loud, whistling attention-getting noise for the boardwalks.

For reference: Flipsky duel 6.6 plus + bluetooth module and SK3 6374 motors

As far as I can tell, you can only pair the vesc to one phone at a time. I tried pairing the same vesc to my extra phone but no go.

do you CAN forward and change the setting on the other vesc too ?

You can pair to multiple devices.
The three dot’s let you choose AD WITHOUT PAIRING. You can create a device list. When you finally pair, devices in that list are allowed to get access.

ah okay thanks!
Also, I’m wondering what would happen if there’s an interuption during the firmware updating process? ie, phone or pc power turns off or get disconnected from vesc, etc.

Nothing happens, everything will be good if there is an interrupt. The FW is loaded into a secondary space on the memory. After a successful upload the FW gets copied into the correct location. That’s why you shouldn’t do anything for 10seconds after an upload.

Where do I do that? I only see the smart reverse settings in the PPM section. And I have tried changing that setting, but the board never goes any faster.

Smart Reverse Max Duty Cycle is you setting.

I’m really confused now Frank. On the mobile app that setting you’re referring to is under APP CFG -> PPM -> General. Do the PPM settings affect the Wand? I thought the PPM settings were only for PPM remotes?

Edit: Further to this, which APP should be set up in APP CFG -> General -> ā€œAPP to useā€? Mine is set to UART and the Wand is working. When I was using my Maytech, I used ā€œPPM and UARTā€.

Nunchuck app

Thanks. That’s not very intuitive though. I have a Wand, not a nunchuck. I would recommend changing the labels to include Wand there to make it clearer.
