Addressing the forum's lack of oversight

@longhairedboy @jamie

Currently, with only two admins on the forum who are not consistently active, important issues and inquiries often go unresolved. To address this, we as a community would like to officially request that additional moderators be appointed from among the active and trusted members of our forum. This will help maintain the quality and integrity of our discussions and allow for timely oversight.

Thankfully we’ve got some great people around here, so there’s no shortage of candidates.

Thoughts?

+1 on this, I think there are plenty of people who’d be happy to handle it and not have us tagging admins whenever something gets weird

Yup. Been needed for some time now. I think we’d see additional vendor engagement as a result.

I agree there should be a bit more oversight, despite the lower numbers nowadays

We are looking to have a community vote for active and trusted users that we think would be best suited for mod privileges, and who would keep this community more helpful for everyone.

While it’s not the only reason I’ve been on here less, the lack of moderation has definitely been a contributing factor as to why. Really hope some action is taken on this to help make the site better for everyone

Definitely feel that active leadership could quell some of the bullshit that we see play out here all too often. Nip things in the bud so to speak.

Better to have to have none than any that isn’t neutral. Especially with the soft-on pack mentality in here.

Hey you guys remember last time we suggested this and they told us lol no?

I know some of you do :kissing_heart::kissing_heart::shushing_face:

You’re not wrong, but it’s been a while so maybe they’ve had a change of heart?

Jamie has always been a solid dude. LHB too. But Damon is wrapped up in his new ventures and Jamie most likely has some sort of life that isn’t us.

I sure hope this drum beat gets heard this time around.

Agreed. My hope is they might be tired of having to break shit up for us

The last time was directly after a Mod got caught snooping PMs. Combined with the built in discourse trust system being limited, they are rightfully hesitant to promote to mod status.

I’m not fully sure what @xsynatic could do with his flaccid-mod status

Admin, not Mod. It matters.

That’s just the line they’ve been feeding us to avoid any work. Elevating to mod carries little risk.

Now not elevating to admin is a supportable argument.

And the last few years have demonstrated how much this is needed.

officially this

“Edit all Posts” is misleading. I would have to turn them into wikis, edit it and then remove the wiki again. I can’t edit other peoples thread titles, regardless of wiki or not.

“hiding posts with a single flag” is also not true (for the most part)

and “sending personal messages to an email” is also untrue. I’ve never even seen that option.

I:

  • can’t approve/deny flags
  • can’t change thread titles
  • can’t change thread categories
  • can’t change user titles
  • can’t change usernames
  • can’t approve/deny vendor corners
  • can’t change any forum settings
  • can’t see/change any user related things
  • can’t see any system relevant things

i’m essentially a glorified thread closer/mover.

This would be nice, empty derail jail is a sad derail jail.

Id like to see it be a rotation, have a vote every 6months or something for three mods from the L3 trust level or higher. My 2c
