Ive had this CRG Damper for a while. Took it off my Gixxer when I switched to something else. A few years ago, I was on one of my boards being stupid and pushing it further then I should have. Around 28 ish mph I got the dreaded Death Wobbles. That will definitely get you to respect the danger of ESK8’s. I was out of commission for 8 months. So ever since ive searched for ideas people have done to their boards to mitigate that disaster. Adding a Damper/Stabilizer always intrigued me. And since I had one just sitting around I thought id try it and see how/if it helped. like most people i wanted a carvy/agile board thats also super stable at high speed. And like everyone whos tried, its very hard to achieve.
Ive mostly seen the piston style damper setup on other people boards. I didnt like the piston damper because they werent adjustable. I wanted to be able to adjust the dampening depending the different surfaces i might find myself in. So i looked at Etoxx CRG setup and used his ideas to make mine. I would have been so lost on how to go about this if Etoxx hadnt done this first.
So does this work? Oh hell yah it does. My board used to get real sketchy anything 20mph +. Now, with the damper, my board is so stable i can max out my motors and not feel any instability at all. Its a pretty crazy feeling to haul ass on dirt roads but im stable as a freight train. Just adjust the damper setting by twisting the knob and off i go without even the slightest hint of the my board ‘tank slapping’
