Add fiberglass or carbon fiber to deck?

That sounds awesome, I love seeing these custom layups🍺

Do you have pics of this? Also I am looking for a camera to get everything started. Any leads on cheap/free cameras that have been sitting around forever?

Search my profile it’s the sonic build. I have good luck with used Samsung phones for recording, and phoning off Ebay.

How much would a skinning process using carbon fiber weave sheets and epoxy cost you? (Using as few layers and materials as possible) I’ve seen a YouTube video from pavel Garmas who documents his boards skinning… for others who don’t get how the process works… I’m just here to see what you guys spent to essentially add little strength to the board and make it less strictly practical, and more strictly fucking awesome… looks awesome and I want to do it as well

How long is a piece of string?
All depends on quantity, quality and volumes of material you use.
Carbon cost - AliExpress cheap $15ish
Epoxy cost - I used west system 105/207 (probably plenty cheaper)
Sandpaper
Pigment (black for base coat epoxy)
Time (the biggest cost)

Cheap(ish)

Thanks man! I like the triangular weave… but it’s crazy expensive (53$) compared to the normal weave… (12$) I’ll look into others as well. That’s not that bad actually, I could get away with spending under 50$ US for the whole process… not that bad… thx :+1:

Yeah that triaxial shit is dope. It’s exactly what I need to reinforce the wings on my Madness build but I can’t find it anywhere but the US. So expensive product plus extortionate shipping fees tells me no.

Lucky for me, your boi is in the US… but still… all I’m really using it for is wow factor… and atleast in my mind… and my wallets best interest… spending 80$ on carbon fiber isn’t too smart… so I’ll stick with the cheap, basic stuff

Do you guys just skin one side or full on wrap it? Mostly my question is what to do with the sides of the deck and how to get nice clean edges. I feel like skinning each side is easier for a clean edge but I don’t know if I want the wood edges showing.

Skinning the edges is difficult. Ask @Tamatoa

Yeah messed up but I like my painted edges better now. Whitepony did skin the edges of a deck don’t remember if it was a spud or a truncated tessaract tho.

Yeah, I’m looking at skinning/wrapping a hummie. I could paint the sides but I how would I match it with a blue/black weave?

White/silver edges

That would be what I was referring to with skinning. My question was if anybody knew a consistent way to do a full wrap, it could be done in stages, but the end goal would be 100% covering.

That would be soooooooo good! Why can’t I like a post more than once?

Nope.
Cloth need to be wet out after laying on. Overhanging bits get epoxy on them.
They cure and go hard. You have to do it all at once

If I was gonna do it, I would wrap the edges first with narrow strips that just wrap over onto the faces of the deck. Then i would skin top and bottom.

Surfboard makers do wrap edges all at once. There is definitely skill in doing it well

There is skill involved in the whole process. It definitely takes practice.

You don’t have to wrap the whole board at once. If anything that would be too much to work with. You can definitely do one side at a time. You would want to get sandpaper to scuff any areas of overlap but it is totally doable.
