Ok, slowed it way down and same issue. I am not sure what happened to my printed. I believe when cura 4.3 was out and I was using it, my prints were good.
I think my main issue is that the walls do not touch. Then from this issue, it propagates to everything else. Current line width is set to 0.48. Bump that up?
Parts wear out, like extruder gear, nozzle. That affects print quality massively.
I don’t know how that would help this inconsistent extrusion. For inconsistent extrusion(because sometimes it touches and sometimes it doesn’t) I would think it’s the extruder or the cooling fan is cooling the nozzle directly and hence blocking it partially.
All you post is helpful! But it seems to be common practice to adjust Z height for the first layer but I don’t really know how much down or up I should go. I set up Z before each print multiple times at each of the 4 corners and at the center using the .2mm feeler gauge but no matter how many times I set it up, first layer is always wack
Try putting a bed leveling print file from thingiverse on your printer. It’s much easier to get a feel for leveling when it’s a bunch of long straight lines printing and not curves and back and forth that can drag up prints and fuck everything up. Most of the ones I see are big squares.
Sometimes the filament would jam and nothing would come out of the nozzle midprint. So earlier, I took apart the extruder and found that the Bowden tube wasn’t sitting into the nozzle so it would heat up the filament but then the filament would pool up inside. I just pushed the tube in a little bit more so I still need to do more testing on that then I’ll try the bed leveling, right?
Absolutely. Make sure the metal piece the ptfe tube goes in to (coupler) is holding the tube tightly. You shouldn’t be able to pull it out by hand easily. Do you have the little circlip holding it tight?
For best first layer adhesion I print quite close to the surface - and also as hot as I can.
Best is to not have any cooling on for the first layer.
Also I wipe my heated base with IPA every time.
Yea I added the base stickers in my cart last night since everything sticks so well
And no! Any information you can give is appreciated! Quick question, I use Cura so what software is this?
I don’t like to use feeler guage. They can be wrong because there are springs involved. I would say print a bed level test(you’ll find a ton on thingiverse). Start with a large gap(nozzle and bed) at first. You can see if it sticks or not. If it doesn’t, then bring the nozzle a bit closer. Try again. This is how you get the best first layer.
If one corner sticks and other doesn’t then adjust the second corner.
Regarding the PTFE tube. Open the nozzle when hot. Push the PTFE tube out from the hotend to make sure there is no clog. Remove PTFE tube. Cut the end flat with sharp exacto knife. Put the nozzle back in but leave one full rotation left. I sent PTFE tube as hard as you can. Now tighten the nozzle. This will make sure that the PTFE and nozzle have no gap in between them.
Manually try to pushout some filament. It should come out very easily. If it doesn’t then it means there is a clog. And you have to do the above task.
