2026 Iron Foot ESK8 Challenge

Yeah, 6 miles isn’t exactly an impressive achievement, but at least we’ll keep this challenge alive :joy:

Lead Thumb Entry

18.34 miles
37.7 mph average speed
53.7 mph top speed
35 mins

Slight improvement (+1.4 mph average speed) from my previous lead thumb entry. Aimed for faster roads with less stop lights. Lost some time due to motors in thermal cutoff, still managed for a very fast ride.

Lead Thumb again

27.96 mi
40.8 mph average speed
54.6 mph top speed

Little bit easier to increase average speeds the further out of town you get.

Cool run! I was hoping to do the challenge on a build with 1500Wh, and I thought my limiting factor would be battery, but 28mi for 1600Wh sounds like going a little faster for 15mi is doable. Was your run standing or in a tuck?

I do my riding standing. Not much of a tuck besides occasionally hands behind the back. This particular ride didn’t set out for a lead thumb but happened to get a great average speed and was over the 15 mile requirement. This is basically my worst efficiency at 58 Wh/mi. Even 55 Wh/mi x 15 miles is 825Wh used. I think you should be good at 1500Wh. There’s something so cool going fast for longer stretches, on a board with enough stability you can relax a little at least.

For sure. Energy consumption due to air resistance should increase with speed^2, so the math says the ceiling for 15mi and 1500Wh should be about 50mph, and maybe more if I tuck.

Excited to see what you come up with, ride safely of course!

It’s this one, I’m trying to make trucks with a go-kart steering mechanism for passive stability.

Yup, I’ve been following. There aren’t many of us that are interested in pushing high speeds in esk8 so the build immediately caught my attention.
