I have an old focbox as well as a Trampa dual HD60 VESC an am looking for a modern remote with telemetry data and screen.
However I have no idea which ones can be recommended in 2025. Flipsky has like a bazillion different versions and I have no clue which ones are compatible and recommended for esk8.
For example the VX4 Pro comes as different versions for VESC4, VESC6 and other - which one is the right one for me?
I have seen the thread on remotes but that seemed to be a little outdated.
Coming from a GT2B mod I would love to have something with similar reliability.
Hoyt Puck had been a good option, downside is it’s shape is uncomfortable for some. But there’re a bunch of aftermarket shell options you can print. Puck 2.0 is relatively new and doesn’t have many aftermarket shell options yet. Z.mote is also a solid option, it has multiple options such as thumbwheel or trigger. He doesn’t have the dual trigger style listed on his website so if you want that you’d have to msg him. Most of the remotes we used doesn’t have telemetry display, if that’s your priority then the VX4/VX4 Pro is good.
VX4 Pro has survived a couple falls so far. No cutouts with it yet either. Hard to see the screen if you ride with polarized sunglasses though. The regular VX4 didn’t have that issue.
The vesc 4 vs vesc 6 versions are just the pinout on the UART. If you get the wrong version, you can repin them to work for the other version. I don’t know the pinout for those ESCs, but usually 7 pins on the UART connector mean you want the vesc 4 version and 8 means you want the vesc 6 version. I think the focbox would use the vesc 4 version, but idk about the hd60.
Flipsky pro has a nasty tendency to get stuck on full throttle when you ride near directional wifi antennas.
Flipsky non pro just dies at some point. 2 of my vx2 non pro remotes got glitchy with bad signal over time. But it’s better than randomly going full throttle.
I’ve fallen too many times because of flipsky, so wouldn’t recommend for city riding.
If you ride in the forest far away from interference, should be fine though.
Oh shit, good to know! We ride past cell towers up on the mountains without issue and on Vandenberg property but haven’t done any city riding. Might be time to check out that Zmote…
I ride around big antennas all the time (they keep putting them in cool remote high up places I wanna ride ) and have never had them interfere with my puck.
The only thing I’ve ever experienced fully cut my puck out is still emergency vehicles while near times square Manhattan
