ZELDA: 18s6p P45B, Duality, Deathtoll goodness

This is a short write up I did comparing my two boards

Love your write-up here! thank you for super in depth insights, but this is the one where you mention some major board differences that may have contributed to the overall feel right?

That’s actually why I ended up thinking it may be good to hear from someone that had the same setup only swapping trucks.

Regardless, since you’re here, how do you like the duality compared to the 3 link? I mean if you had to choose one, which would you choose?

Thanks again for your write up!

Hard to pick one, they both have strengths and weaknesses, good at their own things. If really I had to pick one, I’d probably go with Duality because it’s significantly more tunable and adjustable.

Sorry, I know that’s kind of asking to pick a favorite child (we all have one though, right?.. Right?)
I’m just working on a new build with limited funds and thing the duality are so interesting.

Super interesting to hear that the Duality are more turnable!
How is stability at speed with the Duality?

:man_facepalming:
You said “tunable” not turnable…

Depends a little on angles and bushing setups, but rock solid. I tried my hardest to introduce speedwobbles at 35mph on nothing fancy but was unable to get anything.

That’s amazing to hear!
I just may have to try out a pair myself. Thank you!

They can be more turnable as well! One of the best things about the duality design is that you can put any standard longboard bushing into it. If you put Riptide WFB bushings in, due to their very low rebound they will feel like they have a super stable center but are super easy to actually turn, as they don’t tighten up near the edges like riptide kranks do. With 3 links you are stuck with riptide kranks.

This doesn’t feel as satisfying for purely carving, but feels crazy good for racing, riding at high speeds, and making the board even more manouverable.

These guys really covered it but if I had to pick, I’d go with duality’s hands down. I’m not a racer but the chonkiness gives peace of mind knowing that if I was ever going to break something I’d have to do my best to break them. 3 links can feel great to ride, but I was never totally sold on them because of how finicky they are to work on. Way more moving parts to mess with, more hardware to worry about, etc.

A happy medium i’ve found is going Riptide APS. Much stronger center and less rebound than Krank but its still super fun to carve. Also havent seen any speed wobbles and I ride ~30mph.

Agreed, APS gives a significantly better feel for carving. But for racing WFB is the most performance.

Also with APS in these trucks you’d need to check up on the bushings from time to time, the large range of motion of these can make APS bushings tear over time.

It’s not a large issue, happens quite slowly, just something to be aware of and check up on like every month or two if you ride a lot every day. Or every couple of months if you ride less.
