XT90 or XT60 (serious)

Hobbyking sells genuine amass

No they don’t. I got bullshit “amass” from them so many times I can’t even.

They like, send random shit every single time.

In these pics: Amass(TME.eu), TGY???(HobbyKing) and AmASS(HobbyKing).

i thought they fixed that, i always thought it was a bad batch…

I believe the first and third one is real, the second one is a re brand (turnigy), the first and 3rd are different amass connectors both xt60 family but one comes with a rubber cover.

The third one is a fake Amass from hobbyking, sadly the original is inside my deck. The main difference is color ofc and material. The fake ones just melt while soldering.

i have some xt60’s that melt, i dont really care as long as they dont melt when soldering :joy:

Nice to know though, always thought the tgy ones were fake.

Aside from ordering from Mouser or Digikey, the top rated on Amazon is always your best bet.

I seriously have fuck all of a clue of what’s going on with HobbyKing. Every time I go on there anymore an atrocious amount of simple staples are out of stock. Always considered I might just be checking during peak hobby season… but I don’t think that’s truly the case :open_mouth:

Depends on how much current you are running, as others have said.

For AT or mountainboards, EC5 will be a little better than XT60 or XT90.

If you’re really pushing the limits, look at Anderson Powerpoles.

I’m not running my connectors at 300+ degrees ever

65amps is just under 80deg still to hot for me personally 40-50 I’d prefer this thing is stuffed in a case tight up against battery’s and ESC both trying to shead heat so thay can work better.

Sorry but you have not changed my opinion running both VESC on a single XT60 is pushing it to hard in my opinion and have seen this in application

I’m not really trying to change your opinion tho. You like it on the safe side and that’s totally cool. Not everybody has to run the same thing, that’s the cool part with DIY. XT60 has been working for me, but if you wanna run 90 or 150 absolutely go for it.

You asked why XT60 is popular, we gave you the reason, that’s all. No argument here. I have just as many XT90s in my parts bin as XT60s. I find a purpose and a place for both.

I provided some specs so people can make a educated choice. The pole shows very clearly there is a split in opinion. The hole point of DIY is we have our own take on what we prefer. When I first joined the other forum I was reading
xt60 was 60 continues and 90 peak
XT90 was 90 continues and 120 peak

To later order parts build my first build on r25 cells and order mr30 for motor connections because I thort 30/45 would be fine for a motor and is but there is no way you would ever solder a motor cable to the connector nicely.

I will agree that the bigger wire/smaller connector thing is harder to solder. Not impossible but as you said, not quite as clean. There’s not really a one size fits all scenario here. You have the easy/medium hard riders who do not pull high amps consistently enough to need large connector. You have the hard riders who lack space or otherwise okay with working their equipment hard, you have the riders who wants to follow specs and play it safe. It’s a big variety of crowds and posting the specs is the best advice anyone can give to DIY. The rest of the decision is up on them.

So you have never used a 4p 30q (80A) battery with 2x VESC? (VESC4.xx was capable of 40-80amp double that if using 2)

Psssshhhhhht

Even 30A continuous will get a thermal throttle within 20 seconds or so on the 4.12

Maximum maybe, but the connectors are rated for continuous

let me throw some bullets into the mix
8mm bullets fit 2x 10awg perfectly
5.5mm fit 2x 12awg perfectly

@Sn4Pz i got some xt60 from mouser and they look good and do not easily meld when soldering them like I had it with some o got from China.

My usual source for xt90 and xt90s

Till now I always got good quality and the xt90s are sold for a good price in my opinion.
Shipping took usually around 10-14days which isn’t bad either.

Disclaimer: shipping time is for China-Russia. To US that can be different for sure.

I don’t really know for sure what size bullets are In XT60 or XT90

All I know is I blew 3 up that I thort were good quality with heat sinks. Turns out because of faulty motors from street wing. As fare as I know the FOCBOX was a 4.12 and takes more amps than that. VESC 6 must be taking more than 30 amps

xt60 is 3.5mm and xt90 is 4.5mm iirc
