Also I can vouch for @Pecos as a reliable battery builder, I have a 12s5p P42A pack built by him, a 12s2p pack that he did a BMS swap on and will soon have an 18s1p p42a pack from him, all of which are built to the highest standards that I can comprehend. @Pecos might even have more build pictures to share if people have any concerns buying a battery from an unknown builder.
@Pecos doesn’t really offer to build batteries for other people, but enough locals have asked him to build them a pack. I have the utmost confidence in Chris as a builder.
The build looks meticulously done. I am shopping around for a single stack 12S battery though… @Pecos Is the battery is easily convertible to a single stack pack and @haven near someone who can do that? I have some knowledge about eskate batteries but have never worked on one.
The pack is a single stack, that has been folded back over on itself once. I was thinking that if haven ever wanted to re configure it it would make it easier that way. To do it you would have to take the braid off of the p3 to p4 group and the p9 to p10 group, lay it flat, then reconnect them. I wouldn’t say it’s a beginner project but it’s not as hard as building a new pack.
Id be willing to do it for some beer money if you work out something with haven, hate to see a good battery sit idle
Hey I mean if that could be reconfigured to fit in a peli 1150, I would consider it
Changing from a double flat pack to a single flat pack is a simple exercise in topology. Making a flat pack into a brick/chocolate bar pack is mo involved and less rewarding.
Converting to a single will look much like this photo:
A brick pack is more dense and connected via welds not solder joints, more like this:
As soon as you have to remove welds and nickel you start to see significant increases in the effort. I wrote up a little walkthrough on recycling cells and though if using all matched cells it simplifies the process a lot - the physical labor needed to clean and prep cells without damaging them is a pain. Cells are cheap enough that it’s hard to justify the effort when i have more money than time.
Last full recycle pack i made took 6months off and on? Was a great learning experience disassembling old and broken packs but it’s lost its novelty and is a chore. Most cheap packs are made the same and break the same ways and the cells aren’t usually up to eskate requirements, only so many power banks and laptops i can reuse them on
I’m located in Central Oregon and unfortunately don’t know anyone local to make that modification… if @Pecos is willing to do it and you want to cover the shipping costs, it shouldn’t be too expensive from here to Seattle
I had planned to use this battery for a little MTB jumper, and if it doesn’t sell soon I might just resume that plan
Get it while it lasts!
Converting a flat pack to a brick pack doesn’t necessitate removing nickel, you can still solder all the connections of a brick pack as well.
I converted my Frankendick flat pack to a brick pack relatively easily.

But it’s my baby! I’ll shield my eyes and you can do it
Seriously though im not a business. I make and work on my friends batteries and boards but don’t really feel comfortable getting creative with other peoples kit when they’re not local and we can’t just meet up and get everything fixed up. I only charge a very small amount beyond costs because I don’t buy in bulk and it’s not a viable business model… and i always underestimate what i actually spend on supplies. Cant be bothered to get good at the money part of it, money fucks everything fun up anyway. Just another dangerous thing i like to do.
Not that my work needs much repair due to workmanship but shit happens and feelings get hurt or misunderstandings happen. Im also slow as shit especially when the weather gets good and im riding and working a lot .
Im on a “no growth” business model: keep doing the fun shit. there are plenty of good builders that’ll reliably work on stuff for a buck - I’ll probably fix it for a couple tall boys but you gotta bring it by my place. i literally have 5 workbenches and one is always covered in someone else’s board but the other 4 are filled with my dumbass ideas - if you make it up to Seattle hit up the pnwesk8 build day and we can knock it out in an afternoon probably and go ride afterwards
