Samsung 40T Battery Pack - 12s4p------ SOLD
This is not in perfect condition. There is an issue where the battery pack only charges to 48.5v. I used a multimeter to diagnose the issue to the 2p group cell which only reads at 3.5v while the other cells are at around ~4.1v. Could be an easy fix but I don’t wanna mess around with opening the pack. It was built by ChiBatterySystems. The pack still works great, like I can charge it up 48.5v and ride around getting about ~12 miles of range on urethanes. The voltage issue is the reason I’m selling it for so cheap. It should only have about 3-4 cycles on the pack - so the cells are still pretty new. Price (USD): $159
this is not great. you are at risk of driving those 3.5v pgroups too low when using this pack. definitely needs a fix. and shouldn’t be used any further IMO.
I’m no battery builder, but I assume minimizing safety risk with someone else’s build like this would involve stripping just about everything in order to check welds, wire, abrasion protection, etc. Basically stripping to the p-groups maybe and tossing the rest.
So you’re essentially selling cells at a discount. Could be worth the price.
not really - it could be an issue with the BMS, the cells may not be damaged at all.
you would have to take that p-group out and test each cell and replace a cell or 2.
basically it’s a gamble - either a really easy fix or a more serious fix but either way it can’t be more expensive than the cost of 4x 40T cells to fix it ($40) or a new BMS ($20). I just don’t have the expertise to fix it so I’m paying someone for the time they’d need to put into this pack by offering a steep discount on the pack.
Can you trickle charge the low group through the balance leads (at like 0.2amps) until its 4.2v?
And then leave it for a week and see if it ‘self drains’ significantly. And then try again with it unplugged from the bms. (To see if the cells is the culprit or the bms is the culprit)
In general, I just don’t wanna mess around with the pack - I know that all the cells aren’t damaged by the voltages that I posted in the pic. I just wanna get rid of it lol
I purchased 2 packs from Chi, and I have a similar issue. My packs are 40T 12s2p, and 1 pack only charged to 48v. You’re willing to see if you can fix this?
