WTB hobbywing belt drive esc

I am looking to buy a used hobbywing belt drive esc. I know I could buy a new one for around $79 to $100 but I am hopping to save a few $.

I am finishing a 10s4p dual drive board for my teenage daughter. She does not want a vesc becasue she wants something simple, safe and reliable. I could use a cheap eBay esc for around $50 but my daughter want the smooth brake and acceleration of the hobbywing esc.

I am in the USA and 94546 area.

To setup a vesc is very easy through the assistant. And it’s simple. What battery type do you have?

I don’t mean to be rude but if it’s for your daughter, don’t you think the most recent, safest, updated model from hobbywing should go into it?

Vescs actually have very good reliability, as long as you program it correctly.

I did a quick 10 min search for dual belt ESCs and it seems like the only local one is mboards (unfortunately)

Other cheaper options could be to contact a Chinese vendor like aspuboards or wowgo (two off the top of my head who sell dual belt driven boards) to secure an ESC. Sometimes they’re pretty cool.

@Sn4Pz Programming a vesc is very easy, isn’t it? Even for beginners.

Yeah, but it requires alot of reading before hand so you know what each value really does, and the general safe range of values for your vesc.

I would happily help, but I cant deny the ease of setup with the chinese escs

As Sn4Pz mentioned, Hobbywing belt drive ESCs are not common new let alone used. I just bought a 200kv version from a forum vendor here and I can put you in touch with them.

However, motor sensor compatibility with ESCS is a hit and miss proposition, so if you truly want the smoothest guaranteed ride, a dual vesc like the Maker-X (which I also use) is the best current value.

I would do two single ESCs over a dual ESC

If needing hobbywing esc for belt drive I can send for you.

Could also do two 4.12 for that price, but dealing with can or split pwm or dual recievers is not the friendliest setup for someone not versed with vesc tool or Ack software.

Jeff is the vendor I mentioned. Great service.

Pretty sure that Ownboard uses the Hobbywing controller, you can buy their parts straight up

That’s the original hub ESC. They haven’t put the belt version up yet. Very different kv target.

Thank you guys all the replies and suggestions. Yes. I know how to set up a vesc and I can set it up for her but in the long run she does not want to deal with it. Her BF has a a board with hobbywing setup (hub motor) and my daughter likes the fell of hobbywing esc. Yes. I could buy 2 single flipsky 4.20 plus or 4.12 vesc and set it up for her but she requested the hobbywing. The battery pack I am using for her board has a max discharge of 40amp so it’s perfect for hobbywing esc. Her plan with this board is to cruise around town going 10 to 15mph. We don’t have much hills here.

The set up is.
Abec 11 90mm wheels
31 inch deck
35/15 gears
2 Racerstar 5045 200kv motors.
Hobbywing belt esc
Battery pack when 40 amp max discharge
10 inch Caliber II trucks.

It’s a basic board. I also offered to buy her a meepo mini 2 ER but she did not want it.

Jeff’s Hobbywing belt ESC is tuned to 200kv, so great match. I have the same motors and just waiting on trucks to complete.

These guys know, what they are doing. But she can evolve through that, learn something new and maybe she’ll build sometime her own board. Maybe she’ll be happier after that.

Well, yes. A properly set up vesc is at the very least equal to a HW esc in terms of smooth control, and better since you can tweak and take better advantage of that nice battery.
