Wowgo Truck Snapped on Flat surface at 20mph....

Beware - this Wowgo truck that had a hub motor attached, snapped at 20mph on the flat, causing my son to break his shoulder.

When looking at the break - you can clearly see the casted metal has broken where the bolts screw into the truck.

I would highly suggest that if you have a Wowgo board and trucks (especially hub motors on these trucks) you think twice about using them and inspect them closely.

In my opinion they are clearly not fit for purpose and dangerous.

I have never seen a truck break like this - even in my years skating (I’m 51 and started skating in the 80’s so I’ve seen my fair share of trucks :).

In my youth we would be ollying down steps and grinding concrete and the trucks would remain solid. To reiterate I have never seen a truck break like this - let alone on the flat.

I would really be worried if I was using these Wowgo trucks on an eSk8 - just knowing at any moment they could snap whilst riding gives me a shudder.

Be warned!!

PS I tried contacting Wowgo - but after I showed them the photos I got no further contact from them - essentially they blanked me.

As a 195lb/88.5 KG rider whose hub motors use same securing method, I find this very disturbing.

May I ask the weight of your son?
And an estimated mileage/KM accrued?

The motor sleeves do not look too hammered, are they originals or replaced?

Can you post a pic showing the whole hanger?

This happened to my wowgo a few years ago. Luckily i wasn’t going fast when it happened. It was quite well used at that point but still. I think mine snapped on the front though.

The stress from torque is a lot more than the stress from the weight of the rider.

These kinds of motors should really be supported by steel thru-axles 10-12mm minimum. 8mm steel thru-axles and aluminum have proven to be insufficient time after time.
