Hey guys,
Have been wondering if I can upgrade the Wowgo 2S with the Skullboard Airless motors/wheels (check pics below).
Any thoughts on that? Will the motors/esc work? Can I do it as a straight swap (motors and wheels only) or would I have to buy the complete kit? (last picture)
Thanks

@BillGordon
The wheels might not work because the motor detection from 2 different companies is different. So if you want to upgrade, buy also skull esc.(if they make one)

I have this Skullboard drivetrain. It was good for certain things when I first got it, but deteriorated to the point that I no longer use them. Was always very weak and slow, but really good in rain and comfortable on bad terrain. The worst part was the vibration, whiich felt like you were getting a machine foot massage and got worse over time. They came with a proprietary ESC config matched to their 58kv motors, and that ESC will not work with anything else. (I tried.)
So, in short, do not buy the Skullboard drivetrain or ESC. Instead, if you really want something like this, a few companies are offering these:
Two BIG caveats I will put with these:
-
The company Boundmotor’s website is very shaky. But to be fair, it’s hard to fault any company in China given what’s going on there.
-
I don’t know anyone who have bought and tried these, so hard to get too excited.
Now, what WILL work is to take your Wowgo ESC and use it with a Direct Drive system like this. Look for one that has screws holding the motor cans on, or be prepared to glue them yourself as they will unscrew over time.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies! I really need something more “allroad” to handle the bumpy streets on my city.
I’ve checked that Boundmotor kit already, sounds like a good alternative to the Skullboard ones, but it seems they are also power hungry…
@BillGordon, that suggestion of yours regarding a direct drive system seems like a good option as well, will have a go online searching for it (any suggestions?)
Thanks
The budget DD market is a bit iffy at the moment, but you can step up to Torqueboard DDs if your budget allows. Though you really should be feeding those through a vesc.
