WHY DON'T MORE PEOPLE WEAR GLOVES??!!

I just watched Radium’s new video of them riding a Mach 1 at an F1 circuit. Something i noticed is that their riders (Albert Park and Dylan Bell) weren’t wearing anything but a TSG pass, while also hitting speeds of 77KPH!!!

Come to think of it, I notice a lot of guys in Eskate often don’t wear protective gloves. I sometimes see some racer guys in full moto armor, pants, and helmets, but with nothing on their hands!

For me personally, coming from a downhill background, I would much rather be in regular clothes riding at those speeds with gloves, as opposed to riding with everything but gloves. I often get really anxious when I take any chill rides without them, even though i never break 15mph. Thus, on 99% of my rides, I’m wearing my slide gloves

Can someone please explain the logic behind why a lot of Eskate guys don’t wear gloves!?!?! If there is none, i feel that people should push antiquate hand protection in the Eskate community as, your hands are your first line of defense against serious injury.
Also (this is more opinionated but,) it looks really kooky to alot of us downhill guys when people don’t wear gloves.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not seeking to make fun of the people in these photos, just merely as a mode to give insight into the stuff I’m talking about

As the not so proud owner of extensive hand injuries, gloves and esk8 are annoying.

It can be quite difficult to find a glove that is adequately protective and still easy/comfortable to use your chosen remote.

For me, protective gear in general is annoying. It completely subtracts from the free and flowing feeling that esk8 provides. I get that its good and that peeps should be wearing it, but i hate wearing it

LOOOL ig ur feelings are pretty valid even tho i entirely disagree :man_shrugging:. Its so hard for me to wrap my head around why people just don’t wear slide gloves.
I use my set of dowhill gloves for both eskate and downhill and never found fitting my vx4 arnd my pucks to be a big deal ig. usually i dont wear any other gear other than my pass and gloves and i regularly break 40 so i understand desire for that free flowing feeling fsfs.
Also my gloves have saved my ass more times than i can count

I’d have to agree with the glove sentiment. Even gloving my non remote hand gives me so much peace of mind. How do you manage your vx4 and puck? Got my vx4 Velcro’d to glove and I have a fear I’ll fall and demolish the remote.

Like this! It fs was a bit weird at first but I actually leaned to prefer holding it this way. This is because I can get a full range of motion on the wheel rather than when I hold it normally, having to scrunch up my thumb to go fully on the brakes.
Also I prefer to not have my controller velcroed to the glove as when I fall, I can just drop the remote and catch my body on the pucks. The remoted does get messed up but it’s better than falling with my weight on the remote.

i like wrist guards more than gloves. With gloves i can’t feel the knob

I’ll look into doing it that way!

Would a stiffer throttle help more people use gloves? I can push the throttle just fine but can’t feel a thing which is tricky.

Personally I’m not afraid of road rash or cuts too too much but I am terrified of breaking the bones in my forearm again so gloves aren’t a priority for gentle riding even over elbow pads.

I got these motorcycle gauntlet gloves I’m going to try wear in or modify a little. The lower part with thick plastic on the side, palm slider and just how they’re made makes it pretty decent compared to flatland3d gloves and 1/4 the price (for 2nd choice ones).

Some gnarly gloves u got there! I think stiffer throttles actually may help but u could also just cut off the thumbs of the gloves too.

Yea they definitely look a bit much but it’s a fine caveat for being good and cheap (€27 w/ hairline crack on the plastic, fc-moto)

Another tip to look out for is the leather concertina thing on the knuckle which helps a lot and I think it will be great after a while. I was able to move the spring on my throttle to one of the pins that holds together each plastic half which helps for sure.

There are also lightweight motorcycle gloves. As a Floridian street skater where the only elevation changes are bridges and parking garages, I never wore gloves until recently, but now that I have a quite powerful electric mountain board, I feel naked on that without gloves. I just use Cortech The Thunderbolt Gloves – Cortech USA for some abrasion resistance, though.

These have been super awesome for me, great deal too.

i also hate riding without gloves. i cut off some fingers on my remote hand for the throttle and have a slide glove on my non remote hand.

I can’t have anything on my wrist, any pressure, even just from loose gauntlets, causes numbness in my right hand. I also must have gloves, my hands are destroyed because i make my money with them… so i must protek

Right hand gets a cut resistant glove with the index and thumb cut off and the entire wrist elastic cut off - iss a little shorty glove but it’s the most i can make work. Left hand gets a full leather gauntlet slide glove - slide puck during the day and flashlight at night

I’m not a doctor, but this sounds kinda like a circulation issue?

I also cant bring myself to ride without gloves. Gloves and helmet are my two non-negotiable items of gear, wont step on a board without them. They have saved my ass way too many times for me to consider them optional.

Gloves with thumb cut off, push bike helmet, long pants, jacket, and a few pints.

I’ve also wondered about the lack of other people prioritising gloves. I won’t skate without them.

I use leather moto gloves, scuff the palm, and glue on some velcro so I can attach the plastic skidplates from rollerblading gloves. They’re relatively unobtrusive, and can be positioned wherever.

I’d never ride with naked hands, leg throttle supremacy :metal:

Carpal tunnel, it is my constant battle to keep it in check. It is still below the threshold requiring surgery, but one of the things i do besides daily stretching and anti inflammatories is avoid all compression on the wrist. Now i could probably get it completely healed as well as my tennis elbow if i could take a sabbatical… but food costs money
