What’s your solder setup look like?

I spent a bit of time tuning my kit and wanted to show off a bit. What does your setup look like?

Magnetic everything!
Kit: 2x surplus stackable mild steel plate with rubber feet and a magnetic helping hand kit off amazon. Cheap fume extractor fan on an arm modded to have a hepa filter and bright ass light - took apart a 100w equivalent led light bulb and fit the guts under the hood. Hakko FX-951-66 iron just works and doesn’t ever sag. Fat and thin chisel tips then a fine bent taper for surface mount components. Big ass Milwaukee 570/1000f dual temp heat gun

Little jelly of your extraction setup for starters, mind if I ask what your job title is?

I’m Lead hardware designer.

Currently sorting out the solder room in the picture, theres another desk identical to this one next to it.
ESD floors, ESD chairs, overhead exhaust, hdmi stereoscopes. Other desk has abit fancier soldering station, IR heating bed and suction cup desolder for ICs as well.

Just need some proper supplies and its pretty much set.

I love your setup. Mine is very close to yours, will post mine later today.

Can you share what adapter you used to put the hepa filter on your extractor fan?

This is the arm mounted fan i use, i trashed the carbon filter and cut a much of the fan shroud out as i could to reduce airflow restriction as much as possible. It comes with a duct adapter:

The adapter fits the hepa shop vac filter for the rigid 4gal shop vac

Just had to plug the 1/2” hole in the filter with a bit o tape. A bigger filter would work better but im happy enough with the results. Fan needs to be close to the work to capture everything but it does

Hakko team!

Why do you even need that?

I soldered on my computer motherboard in a cabin in the woods with a fork and a candle, enough to get the sound working again so we could listen to mp3s while we tripped.

I don’t recommend keeping any forks around that have lead on them.

I wonder how many millions of dollars we as a collective have spent/ and or earned from recreational substances .

Put together a portable kit, mostly use it on custom led repair and install stuff not eskate but that’s just because i can make money on one and not the other
