What’s the best way to secure a battery etc in the enclosure?

Generally, you want to secure the battery to the deck with an industrial strength velcro or something with similar strength to keep the weight off the enclosure. Fill up the empty space with a light foam to keep vibrations to a minimum.

If you have a top of the line enclosure (fiberglass level strength), you can get away with putting the pack’s weight on the enclosure but use extra threaded inserts when mounting the enclosure to the deck to compensate.

Don’t go overboard with this step, or else you may damage the battery if you ever decide to remove it from the enclosure. I’m talking from personal experience.

I like using dual lock, you can use a card to seperate the connection and it doesn’t stick together unless you press it down

I like the technique of putting a second layer of sacrificial shrink wrap on the pack, then using VHB to attach it to the deck. If you need to take it out, you carefully peel the sacrificial shrink wrap layer off and you are left with a adhesive goo free pack.

I attached Velcro straps to the deck so they hold the battery in place. There is also foam between deck and battery and battery enclosure so the Velcro have constant pressure so. Super easy if the pack needs removing.

VHB?

Damn smart idea with the card, I have been using the pull as hard as you can until something gives technique

3M double sided tape, stands for “very high bond”

Strongest double sided tape in existence I think

Oh no no no that’s bad, if you ‘snap’ a battery the welds can be seriously compromised and you loose cells within the parallel group (one group will charge and discharge way faster and it will be hot)

Good to know, the only thing I have done this to was my ESC. I have never moved the battery bsince installation, but if I do need to remove I will definitely remember what you just said and get the card out. Thanks!

I definitely should have mentioned this… Also from personal experience :expressionless:

Had problems detaching industrial strength velcro when trying to pry off battery. My personal experience is way more professionally experienced than yours though. Especially on a personal level.

How do you attach the esc to the deck? I’m trying to wrap my head around how to do this.
And is this double sided tape you use dampening enough @JoeyZ5? Im thinking about deck side.
Trying to find decent photos, but its hard to find somethin that tells me how to do it.
Im gonna get a tight fit, so thick dampening there wont be any room for.

Generally I mount everything into the enclosure, except in the Hummie deck where I’d mount it to the underside of the deck.

Most enclosures I’ve used were fiberglass eBoosted ones, at which point the battery would have neoprene foam under it and maybe on the edges to better secure and space it in the enclosure. Then I’d have the VHB tape to keep it in place.

I’ve secured ESCs in various ways, from adhering it with silicone, or thermal glue in some cases, to bolting it onto a heatsink plate. If it’s just an ESC into an enclosure, I’d likely use silicone at certain spots to accommodate its heatsink getting warm, and at some point being able to remove it if need be. Meaning I wouldn’t slather it everywhere.

Do you guys also secure the battery to the deck with enclosure+deck combo like the Flux?

yep, I used a tiny piece as a test and it ripped the adhesive off but the small 1x1in square of velcro is still stuck down.

I think if you are running a solid fiberglass enclosure like from Eboosted then you can not secure the deck and cell pack.

Yeah, nothing sticks to the inside of eboosted stuff it seems.

huh?? the used Eboosted enclosure I made a build in came with the hook side all down the bottom for attaching the battery.

I meant the enclosure is more structural so it can support even a heavy 12S8P battery.

I think what is best is putting this strip on the deck and use the battery strap, and a bit of velcro on the enclosure (space permiting) to hold it all solid.
