How often are you changing the belts?
My guess is that you will have to switch to non-proprietary trucks in order to use gear drives on this board.
Acedeck has geardrive on their newer model (Z1?). Maybe ask them if those will fit.
You are having issues with the belts because of the short distance pulley to pulley and the large difference in their sizes. Both combined make for a bad pulley engagement on the small pulley, slips easy.
Saying this just to let you know not all belt drivetrains perform this poorly, it can last hundreds of km. My belt drive has been fine for the last 700km.
If you could find a way to DIY a tensioner in there somehow, to change the angle of the belt, that could help.
Swapping to a smaller pulley in the front, larger in the back would also help a ton. If you swapped to smaller rubber or urethane wheels for example.
What ever belt size you have currently, drop 5mm (if it’s a 335, go to 330). You want to move that motor closer to the wheel so you can get better adjustments between belt and pulley. Get a slightly larger motor pulley. And definitely try to add a idler somehow.
I’ve got 3 boards running belts for over 3 years now. 1 of which still has the original belts. My daily has seen 2 sets and my girl’s board has seen 1 set. Belts are very reliable if they are set up correctly.
I believe that those trucks are completely different than what he currently has.
If you’re changing belts often enough for it to annoy you, then there’s another problem. Your belt system isn’t working correctly, isn’t installed correctly, or isn’t designed correctly.
