The motors on my daily driver street board have recently taken some big scratches. I’m looking for something to cover them up. Does anyone wrap their motors? If so, what’s the best way?
I’ve used normal 3m backed vinyl wrap off amazon with a lot of success, for a little while I had my motors wrapped in reflective tape as well.
Basically just a matter of applying the vinyl on smooth while periodically heating it with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive a bit then trimming the excess with a blade, if you look up vinyl wrapping tutorials on youtube you’ll definitely come across some helpful methods.
Any thoughts on heat dissipation? Maybe some kind of coating or even white/reflective instead of black. I can put the can in a lathe and cut some shallow fins into it.
I had mine wrapped for a while and saw zero difference in motor temp
anyone try some 3d printed sleeves?
i’d be concerned about the motor melting it. but i’ve never tried it and don’t know much about melting points of you and other printing material so idk
With how hot I run my motors, they’d warp first ride unless they were something ultra high temp
People leave their vinyl wrapped cars in the 100 degree sun pretty often. They prly make high temp wraps
yeah that’s true but i’d argue that 180f is definitely a lot higher than what you’d experience in the trunk
Ig so. I run hot motors well, I’ll see how the wrap goes ig!
Yeah I was just meaning 3d printed ones. I didn’t have any issues with delam
Pro tip: clear shrink wrap your vinyl wrapped motors, it keeps the edges from coming up and it’s easy to cut off and reapply if scratched
