You need to go inside the Metr app and confirm the settings.
I am running coupled 45 degree v0v7 silent HFI on my mountainboard right now on a DV6. Tracking seems to be a lot better than without sensors, it doesn’t completely eliminate cogging on startup, but it’s way better. I am however occasionally getting some ABS overcurrent faults at RPMs when it should be the silent HFI’s job to track the motor. Slow ABS overcurrent is turned on. Not sure if this issue is because I have sHFI configured or not, but it’s definitely present since I rebuilt the board and configured it with sHFI
I followed the HFI mode setting guidelines from youtu.be/H-6qzmeCNtw and was successful in getting my motor to hold a fixed position. However, I’m encountering some difficulties when it comes to speed control. Upon inspecting the real-time data, I noticed that the RPM has a peak but remains at zero after that. I tried to turn the motor manually, and it can provide a large amount of torque.
If anyone has suggestions or tips for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I would be interested to know if there are any specific settings or configurations that I should be looking at in my VESC or motor setup. Thank you in advance!
Got about 600 mi on shfi now. Starting to cut all my perfectly good sensors cause fuck em.
Makes drivetrain swaps easy peasy with panel mounted mr60s.
Have cut 2 sets, bout to do 1 more soon.
Wow really!? So if you mash the throttle full stick from standstill on a powerful board it responds well?
Why not keep the temp sensors?
Yeah man, really smooth. I’ve had only the tiniest stutter(barely) if I’m sitting alternating from forward to back repeatedly at a standstill a handful of times.
That said, since I’m running a 60d+, it’s not silent. There is a little whine till a couple mph, whichbi believe that threshold of where it stops is adjustable.
I’ll try and get a vid for ya.
Thats a caveat, one could run a xt30 paneled for temp, but I don’t really care and don’t think the tiny wires would last. I know the thermal of these motors from running them for 3500mi+.
I know what type of riding gets them hot and when to give them a little break.
I’m still a bit chicken to upgrade from 5.3FW to 6FW to try shfi. I also think I’ve read somewhere that the Maker X DV6s are not as good with shfi compared to Stormcore (maybe even back in this thread somewhere).
But yeah, keen to see a video of what’s possible when u get a chance. Thanks.
I feel this, I only went to beta 6 cause a @whaddys killed one of my sensors with TrollSnot. I’m nervous to upgrade to the non beta.
Glad he killed it though cause maintenance/drivetrain swaps is way easier without sensor wires passing through the enclosure. I have no space for panel mounted sensors either.
I’ve been running 45 DEG HFI with my Unity on 6.0FW and it’s smooth as butter just not silent but I don’t mind the sound.
Did you have to adjust the hfi gain?
I did not mess with it, I tried HFI and I didnt like the way it felt so I tried 45 DEG Silent and it rode really smoth from a stand still and I’ve been running it like that ever since. I knew that it was not going to be silent and I’m ok with that because it feels good.
Good deal, only ask cause with the stormcore and flipsky motors you need to turn the hfi gain down while running shfi.
Good info, thanks.
If you all want to see how silent and awesome sHFI can be, watch this video starting at 5:00. Vedder pushes this motor at 100a, and using Trampa’s VESC6, it is completely silent and performs great. I hope that other ESC makers can figure out how to make sHFI silent as well, but perhaps it depends on the motor as well?
@Pickled_Monkey did you ever get around to testing sHFI on the Ubox with the apex outrunners?
the ubox exploded and the apex outrunners rotors blew up and puffed the magic smoke
That’s… Encouraging
Damn… sorry to hear it man. If the outrunners puffed magic smoke, sounds like a phase short?
I guess it’s tough to know if that was the cause or symptom of the ubox explosion?
first ubox exploded on motor detection
second ubox firmware bricked it so hard both controllers blew, big up @jaykup for fixing it
and the outrunner that puffed the magic smoke locked up from a bearing collapse and i believe traction control ramped the power up and cooked a phase on the motor (that was on a trampa mk4)
i have since been riding an ebike because no one makes parts that can survive me.
side note all the shfi and hfi methods work horrendously on a 48 pole ebike hub motor
VESC in general has been horrible for me with large, high pole count motors, with or without HFI.
