Just drill and tap for M3 or M4 bolts — if you even need a flange. I did 3 bolts and it’s fine, could get away with two if your belt is aligned.
Don’t forget the Loctite or epoxy threadlocker!

In my experience the first thing that wears on belts are the glass cords. I thought the same thing, but I don’t think it actually ends up mattering.
