Cool ideas but so complicated when the scene is still so small. I’m hoping more people jump into SPEC to help it grow even if it’s not their ideal class. SPEC will grow the sport, especially with @MoeStooge literally providing boards for anyone to race on. I haven’t seen any other manufacturer do that at a race here in the US and it’s a real testament to how much SRB continues to push the sport forward.
Like hey friend that goes on group rides that owns a backfire zealot, wanna try racing? Theres a mellow class called SPEC, you don’t even need a board, just come and bring a your riding gear!
I’d rather race my regular boards over SPEC, it’s not the most ideal setup for me but I want to see more racing so I built this up and will host a SPEC race at our intro2speed in AZ. I’ll be doing my best to get more of the EUC crowd here onto a board for the racing. We have one guy here that races euc that snagged a hawk to get into eskate racing
I like the equal across the board equipment, not sure if TEF just decided there weren’t enough riders for the weight classes but that would make a big difference. I know the SOS series had rider weight classes.
a weight compensated spec class is such a clever idea.
going with it, I would note that weight not only effects power, it also effects grip.
making the ideal even harder to achieve.
Not directly, a tire can support the same lateral Gs for any rider weight. But a heavier rider gets more temperature into the tire for the same G, which does affect grip
I had the idea that you could put an IMU onto the esc, and have your throttle directly control the acceleration with a PID loop or something This would auto-compensate power for rider weight.
I think mu is not directly affected by weight.
but practically mu varies on a tire as heat builds up. so the heavier rider has some advantage there. not sure what the range is on the madwheels is tho. I’d expect small.
Well had my first track day at intro on the build. It’ll need a little tuning to get things feeling right with the geometry but overall it performed well.
I had installed a @tomiboi toe hook but it’s overkill on spec power/grip. A foot stop will be needed though on the V5 since it’s completely flat. We pulled it after a bit so everyone could ride
It was super fun, just those wheels…. Being kind of on edge so easily just wasn’t that enjoyable to me, took one kinda slip that tweaked me a bit. So for now I’ll put in some more time and see where things end up but I’m kinda 50/50 on racing it. It’ll be available as a house board for intro2speed AZ spec though for sure.
Our first Spec race (ish) at Intro2Speed AZ also went down
We had 2 HAWKS, this V5 and another rider on a low to mid power (forgot brand) street wheel setup that did a close to spec race.
I lent the V5 to another rider since I wasn’t feeling great from earlier, Vince that’s primarily a EUC racer but is also someone that now owns a HAWK and a Monsoon as he starts getting into esk8 racing. He enjoyed the longer wheel base and the build In this race he said.
