UBOX & Remote: Change controller mode

I have the original Spintend UBOX and their remote, ran it all last season and it worked like a charm.

Took it out and tested the MB in the skatepark last week and quite quickly came to the conclusion that I need to be able to change directions fluently. Something like torque control in both directions seems like the best way.

How the heck do I change the pairing mode & configure the remote on the UBOX to make this work?

In the vesc tool in your input settings, you need to change the input mode to “current”

It is already in current mode.
For reversing I etiher have to use “smart reverse” och press a button to change direction in this mode.

Current bi directional is what it’s called for uart remotes IIRC

It´s connected as an “VESC remote” according to Spintends instructions. Sounds like I need to change it over to a UART connection. I don´t know it that is possible using the original controller?

PPM with control type Current seems like an alternative. But I dont understand how to get that to work with my controller.

Vesc remote contains the uart remote settings. Just change your control mode to current bi directional

Sorry dont have that option.
VESC Remote → General → Control Type: Off / Current / Current no reverse.

What firmware are you on?

According to the Firmware changelog: 5.03

In the remote you can set control as PPM, which would use the PPM settings in VESC tool. If you are able to use the reverse button on the remote, it is still in UART mode as it doesn’t work in PPM.

This seems to have done the trick, running PPM / Current now works.
The throttle mapping is insane but that I can fix

Weird, I’m running a Ubox on 5.3 with the remote in UART/VESC Remote mode and have the option.
