TS100 soldering iron thread

Another random temperature controlled soldering iron that I was using broke, so I’m looking to step up game this time and buy TS100 or TS80. But can’t really decide. TS80 is more expensive, but I really like that you can power it off QC charger. When I’m traveling I always carry QC charger for my phone, so TS80 would be more compact to travel with. But I’m afraid that it won’t be able to solder thick wires like 8AWG.

BTW flipsky released improved version of TS100 called SQ-001. https://flipsky.net/products/ts100-intelligent-mini-soldering-iron

I don’t think anyone can comment on durability the until the iron is being used for everyday for like 2 years

Seems like the same product to me.

The TS100 has no problems with fully charged 6S so 25-26V supply should work without any issue, too.

No problem works like a charm.

I think the SQ-001 is the same, maybe a newer firmware and also comes with some of the usual accessories right away.

I am looking for my ts100 in the drawers. Can’t find it lol. I didn’t like it so I never used it again. To be honest I didn’t upgrade firmware nor tested it thoroughly. My hakko was just better above 14 awg out of the box.

TS 80 fan here. Been using mine for a little bit. No bulky laptop brick needed, it just works with my phone charger  great for all kinds of soldering and imo if you only buy 1 iron make it a ys80 or ts100

Fair warning to all is that none of these soldering irons are that good concerning ESD protection. You can even measure voltage on the tip of them with a regular DMM. I havn’t yet destroyed any ICs to my knowledge but it could happen.
Using the grounding terminal on the TS80 helps a bit.

C4 tip is the best for big stuff I reckon

TS80 I think has only 3 tips. Another advantage for TS100.

I really like the t12 that I use at home. I don’t know the wattage out off my head but I think it was arround 100.

yeah a year back or so when I got my ts100 it went back and forth between the t12 and ts100.

I’m sure the ts100 is perfect for on the road. But why not use a station at home? I like to have a light as possible soldering iron in my hand

I would go for the shorter nice handle compared to the screw on thing:

i dont find the ts100 bulky at all. for me the cord makes a massive difference. and two thin 20 awg twisted silicone wires makes a massive difference.
but the availability at the time was the reason why I got the ts100 over the t12
