I’ve never tried heat set inserts cos nuts are easy and cheap and they work plus nylock ftw.
Fucking worked, i was stoked. Cross threaded a single nut, but one out of 16 not too bad! It got in far enough for it to just be considered as permanent thread locker even though it worked, i wouldn’t recommend it as a viable method… was kinda touch and go
I did think of maybe using some petg over the top of the tpu like a washer that would hold the nut, but i wanted to try the glue first. Those bolts are permanent and will never need to come out so it’s done now anyway
Grease the tip of a bolt, thread it most of the way into the underside, fill the insert with hot glue, back the bolt out. You’ll be left with a membrane of glue at whatever thickness you want.
Got a little CAD time in this eve. Pretty happy with the shape of the box, still gotta figure out how i’m gonna split it to fit on the print bed. I got ideas, just need to finesse them into reality.
I don’t think heat set would work very well in tpu. Tpu is such a weird material I think it would just deform around it. They work amazing in the materials though if you set them right
Cheers dude. Looking at this top enclosure next to the bottom enclosure, I kinda wish I had’ve designed both at the same time and translated a bit of the design language from the top one into the bottom one… but no matter, the function is the most important part!
I used the 3dp walls to drill the perimeter holes in the top and bottom lids and designed a little bolt on scribing jig to make the holes for the esc.
To make the perimeter holes, i first cut the lids to size and then used double sided tape to hold the lid to the walls while I drilled. Worked a treat!
They still need a lot of finishing work, but this is good progress!
I wasn’t happy with how the solo heatsink looked a little set down from the top face of the plate.
Savaged the underside with a router/trimmer to get the top to sit nice and flush. Much happier now. Definitely gonna paint these plates black, will probably do the same with the plates underneath too just for consistency
I also feel weird about it! But the only good reason i can see to mount them more traditionally is if I spent a lot of time riding switch, and I totally won’t
I can’t remember if I tried it on Madness or not. I know i fucked with the positions a bunch of times tho
i’ve paid a lot of attention to my stance over the past couple of years, and I feel like i’ll be ok with it set up this way.
Want this board for primarily off road bumpy shit so the bindings will help stop me from bouncing off the board, and should also help with hard, sharp cornering
