You could spray it a flat black (or other color), then 3DP a template to spray bedliner for a raised relief. I like making patterns with tape that way
Maiden voyage was short but sweet! In typical Melbourne fashion, it decided to rain at the first chance I had to ride the board, so i got wet quick and didn’t really wanna get any more wet cos i got shit to do
The torque is sweeeet and I had to put traction control on because it was hard to keep wheels from spinning in the wet grass.
Really disappointed with the weather (and its meant to rain all week ) but first impressions of the board are awesome!!! If it rains at least it will give me the chance to completely finish it:sweat_smile: Got a package today that came sooner than I expected!
Looking forward to seeing what you pretty it up with. I was thinking that bare lid may cause some serious glare in the middle of the day, although I hear you guys never see the sun in Melbourne
Just getting acquainted but i’m in love already! Soooooo much fucking fun, i’ve been mad for abstaining from the mtb life.
No logs cos I’ve become accustomed to robogotchis logging everything for me, gonna be hard to get used to having to start a log every time i ride again… one of the things i really don’t like about metr.
I couldn’t be more hyped about it!! Definitely wanna tweak it a little, stiffer bushings in the back would be nice, currently krank 87a white all over. Some knobbier tires would be cool to try as well.
It handled all the terrains I wanted it to and honestly performed a little better than I expected… fucking stoked!!!
Now i just gotta finish it
Got my BIG BEEMS on! If i manage to wake up well tomorrow, i’ll go for a quick squirt in the morning to sus them out…
I’m not entirely sure the angle on there is going to work for me, but @ShutterShock has included a bunch of different angle wedges for me to try, cheers dude!
My only feedback so far is that the TPU ‘clamps’ could have been tighter. I used a bit of heatshrink over the hanger and that got it real nice and snug.
Had a look at the tail lights, they seem great, hopefully get time in the next few days to design the handle/tail light mount!
Awesome to have some representation down under, as they say.
Thanks for the feedback, I’m interested to see what angle you end up at. Let me know if you have any issues.
I got it out for a quick run. The 4 degree wedges you put on were perfect for my 35 degree truck!
It did cast pretty bad shadows when riding through grass, but that’s a problem inherent to board lights, not the angles. For flat surface riding, the 4 degree wedges were great
Ah alright great - that was my suspicion, I run the same exact setup and am pretty happy with the results - almost never ride through grass though
super cool build
I got the box bling sorted and I don’t love it but I like it better than rhe bare lid, so it’s definitely good enough for now.
Took it to the park to see how hard I could push it… not super hard it would seem i’m such a scaredy cat off the beers.
The apex airs are so nice. Exactly what I wanted for this build. Coupled with the f5 bindings, you can lean sooooo deep into turns, its awesome.
I’m also really stoked on my binding positions! I feel more comfortable than i’ve ever felt with full bindings on. I remember with madness, I rarely rode with the heelstraps because it just wasn’t comfortable, but this board totally shines with heelstraps on.
Need to get the handle done so I can sign this board off as complete!
Looking great with the 3DP veneer on top man, really finishes it off!
That binding position would absolutely fuck with me, but it just goes to show how unique everyone’s riding styles and positions are! Interesting to hear youre enjoying the heel-straps also as I still feel the need to move my heels up and down, even when off-roading. I ride with them pretty loose in general though
Future man.
You should put a little bumper on your handle thing so your board stands up.
Not that it’s not already the coolest thing ever!!!
Stoked to see you out riding it!!!
Definitely on the cards! But handle first!
I feel like you’re missing out on handling potential if you’re that loose!
Can’t get enough of this thing!
Maybe use the 3d printed logo as a stencil and paint the lid with coarse bedliner ? that woulk make it look more rugger like the rest of the board
The funny thing about my logo design is that it’s a hand cut stencil, that i took a photo of, vectorised, and now incorporated into a 3d printed part the whole point of using the 3d printed part is that I didn’t want to paint the lid
It’ll be easy to change this ‘skin’ depending on my mood! For now i’m happy with the spiderman glyphiks logo
makes sense, I missed this one
I don’t know, somehow it’s a bit to shinny compared to the rest of the board, maybe the same logo, but with less wide lines ?
(I mean it’s all really good already, I’m commenting just because you said you don’t like it much)
I’d say paint the lid matte black and do gloss black stripes in the same widths/spacing as your deck skin
Totally feeling you on the too shiny part.
BUT
I am past the point of caring too much the spiderman logo isn’t an A+ for me, more like somewhere around a C- / D+, but it’s still a passable result
given the time I have put into this project already, i’m kind of at the end of my tether with it, just want to enjoy the ride now.
The handle/tail light mount is my number 1 priority right now as that is the final functional part I need for me to consider this build complete…
I’m sure there will be tinkering and adding/subtracting/modifying parts in the future, but right now i’m happy with shiny spiderman logo
You are a stand up guy Future Man!!!
