I find that open gears is a bit loud for me if I go on longer rides, like +30 miles. I would prefer an enclosed gear drives for long rides like that.
Did you figure out what caused the d100 to go bang?
Who built those? I think i saw the post in another threat but i can not remember who didt it.
Thinking of possibly running open gears.
She is gorgeous.
Looks like an absolute blast to ride!
@IDEA made my mounts and i believe also the ones for this build.
i think the smallest ratio mines will accept is 14/67 with the duality trucks but you can go with 78t gears and go lower gearing if you need. the lowest i’ll be going is 16/67.
That’s totally fair, this board was never made for long range riding, especially since I’m averaging around 40-45Wh/mi. The noise would definitely start to drive me crazy if I were doing 30+ miles.
Not fully. I contacted MakerX and they seem positive it was one of the fets that popped and blew off that positive lead. I’m leaning towards it being a bad solder joint from the factory that disconnected and shorted. Sort of a chicken/egg situation unfortunately.
Yep, as @Ash said, they’re made by @IDEA and they’re beautifully machined. These were originally a one-off for me and another rider here in DC, but I guess some other people requested them as well so he now has them listed on his site.
The absolute smallest you can run with the 60-72/60-82mm c-to-c distance is what I’m currently running, 14/67T.
It looks like @Titoxd1000 has some similar motor mounts on his site if you want another option for running open gear drives on Duality/Apex Air hangars.
I’ll probably check out both.
Im planning on Still running my Hubba Hubs, and have a spare set of rockstar pro 2 XLs for my slicks.
What gears do i get for that? Ive never bought gears and i know those need 5 holes vs the stooge 4 hole design.
the stooge gears have the 5 hole design as well that’ll fit mbs pattern hubs
I did not know that thanks!
Do they have kits for spacers and everything?
Im about to go check the site.
they don’t have spacers but i believe @Shadowfax and @zero_ads have run them on hubba hubs so they can probably send links to them if they still have em. the mbs hubs should be as easy as longer bolts and a few washers to space the gear off the hub
Thx. Restocking the smaller mounts in 2-3 weeks. Ctc is going to be 58-73mm, which allows 11-28t pinions on the 67t spur and up to 18t pinion on the 78t spur for open gear drive.
You have to get bolts and spacers yourself which can all be found on Amazon. Or if Linn is still selling it you can use his adapters.
You want m4 hardware.
This is how I run Hubba Hubs with Stooge gears. I use M4 Hex Coupling Nuts and I use long M4 bolts, similar to how @piepowered did with his. With my way it’s a bit of hassle to change tires and definitely need an electric screwdriver, but it’s more secure imo.
Just a heads up - the stooge open spur gears are loud af.
If your board is a commuter or long ride cruiser I’d run closed gear drives. The open gears get quite tiresome if you’re doing long rides.
